This is a beautiful property although not really walking distance from the town. It is set in a large garden with a large pool and lots of trees. Our suite was large and contemporary and very comfortable but we did have a few problems that we don’t expect in a five star resort hotel and member of the Small Luxury Collection. The biggest problem was in the otherwise great bathroom as it had a good size window that looked over the pool, but the there were no window coverings whatsoever so everyone outside could see straight in. When we told reception they actually seemed put out that we would complain about this and said that nobody has before. Unless they were nudists this is impossible. In any case they sent two men who applied an opaque film which solved the problem. When we tried to use the safe we found it was broken but it was replaced with another. That evening we heard a very loud sound of water coming from right outside the bedroom, which we thought was a broken pipe so we head to call reception for the third time. The young lady who came said it was from the air conditioner outside and she switched it off, but the next day it came back. We think it was actually someone running the bath or shower in the adjacent room. These are all issues that should not happen in a 5 star resort.

We stayed 4 nights at Les Bories. A lovely location with amazing views. Very quiet and peaceful. Walkable to Gordes during daylight hours and a very convenient location to explore the Luberon. We stayed 4 nights at Les Bories. A lovely location with amazing views. Very quiet and peaceful. Walkable to Gordes during daylight hours and a very convenient location to explore the Luberon. The breakfast buffet was very nice. We ate dinner there the first night as we were too tired to go into town. The dinner service was odd to us- very stuffy and formal. A very limited menu. We did not use the spa facilities. My general impression left me kind of cold. A very nice place to stay but I don’t think that we would stay there again if visiting Gordes.

“Nice hotel but not 5-star quality”

This hotel is definitely dated. The rooms are huge but the separate WC from the main bathroom, etc. is weird. Remodeling would be a nice transformation for this place because it has an excellent location. The buffet breakfast for 25 euros needs an upgrade too… no fresh omelettes or fresh vegetable… more

The buffet breakfast for 25 euros needs an upgrade too… no fresh omelettes or fresh vegetables or fresh anything. Lots of breads, I dont know if there are any better options for lodging in Gordes but if I could lower my expectations (and price) from a 5-star to a 4-star or even 3-star, I think this hotel would get better ratings.

“A Five-Star Disappointment in a Beautiful Setting”

This was the hotel we had placed our highest expectations on during our summer trip, and yet it left us completely disappointed. Our booking as SLH Club members was utterly disregarded—not just in terms of the upgrade (understandably impossible since the hotel was full), but because there was no form of welcome at all. Not even the simplest gesture, like a simple cookie in the room or a basic glass of water upon arrival. Check-in was in French, handled by a young receptionist who struggled both with my modest French (my fault) and with her broken English (her fault). We were then escorted to our junior suite, which unfortunately was located directly behind reception, opening onto a busy corridor, with its entrance in full view from the lobby. Inside, the furnishings felt dated, while the bed was covered with decorative pillows and throws that looked rather dusty. Very few outlets were available to charge our phones, and the ones that existed were poorly placed. The small separate bathroom where the WC was located (the typical French layout) looked more like a 1950s pay-per-night hospital toilet—a sort of old sanatorium atmosphere. For a supposed five-star, the first impression was entirely negative. Thankfully, valet parking and luggage service provided by the agile and kind Ismahel seemed to be the only reliable aspect. Moving on to breakfast, things went from bad to worse: low-quality products and a service that was far from up to standard. Waiting times were long and inexplicable, coffee was surprisingly served by hand without saucer or spoon, and tables for four were set only for two, with chairs awkwardly placed where no setting had been arranged. To make things worse, no à la carte menu was available—an absence that felt surprising, if not disappointing, for a supposed five-star hotel. After experiencing breakfast service, we decided not to risk dining at the restaurant in the evening—despite its very attractive location. It felt like a scene from a quirky French comedy film—but with no reason to laugh. It’s a real pity, because the location is beautiful, with well-kept gardens and a large, well-positioned pool. However, with no service at the pool, it was hard to tell if the towels left on the loungers were abandoned or deliberately reserved. In short, three nights that were far from luxurious. Quite the opposite. This is a hotel that must have enjoyed better days in the past, but today—I definitely wouldn’t return.
