Proper 5* hotel. Every aspect of comfort for the guests is being thought of! From the minute of driving in to the car park to the check out we were warmly welcomed and served in friendly and helpful way. All staff speak perfect English, polite and helpful. Room/ suit was spotless, very modern and comfortable . The bed extremely good. The pools , especially the outdoor one were magnificent. Very warm , and easy access. The indoor, was too cold water. The only real comment I have, that there are not fresh towels on the pools level. I am disabled and could not get down the stairs to bring them. As well, there was no one to ask for it. The restaurants were are nice. Breakfast is great! We tried the Italian, the bistro and the Ösch Noir ( 2* Michelins ). The food was excellent and the service outstanding in all of them. Would love to come again, and will warmly recommend to stay there. It is only short drive ,1.5 hour from Zurich airport, and lots to see in the back forest.

I have stayed in hundreds and hundreds of hotels in my life, but the Oeschberghof has got to be in my top three as far as service and attention to detail are concerned! My two girlfriends and I just came for the weekend to celebrate a 60th birthday and our entire experience couldn’t possibly have been better. As one of my sons is in the hospitality business in Switzerland, I know that such quality service by every single staff member - from the receptionists to the restaurant and spa staff to the bellboys and chambermaids, etc. - is the result of having fantastic management. Thank you so very much!!! The girlfriend whose birthday it was was upgraded to a larger room, but the singles too were wonderful. We received bubbly welcome drinks upon arrival and a lovely young staff member then came over to explain all the details of our stay. The well stocked minibar (beer, wine, soft drinks) was completely free, so we had pre-dinner drinks in the comfortable seating area of my room. The spa was spotlessly clean and oh so enjoyable on both days. Dinner at the Hexenweier restaurant was delicious and the cosy bar with fireplace was great for after-dinner drinks! I will definitely return but in the meantime hats off to the brilliant establishment! 👏👏👏

“Overcrowded and not a 5 Star Hotel”

After hearing from many sources that the Öschberghof is a great hotel, we wanted to try it out for ourselves. We booked one night in mid-August. It was a weekend, so we naturally expected a lot of people, but that shouldn't be a problem at a hotel that calls itself one of the 101 best hotels. We arrived at noon and received a friendly welcome, but of course, our room wasn't ready. We then went to Donaueschingen and had a quick lunch there. Back at the hotel, we were looking forward to the pool, which we wanted to enjoy in the nice weather. However, we received an email the day before our arrival stating that the pool area was unfortunately no longer accessible after 5:00 PM. We did not like that, as when we booked this was not announced anywhere. As we complained they offered us a small bottle of champagne in return. However, at he pool we detected it was quite a small pool overcrowded with many people and already at 2:00 PM they started to do the setup work for the party later in the afternoon which we found annoying. Furthermore, the outdoor pool was completely full at that time because it is far too small for a hotel with 111 rooms. The number of loungers by the pool are also completely inadequate, and many of them had towels laid out but weren't occupied. It somehow brought back memories from the Balearic Islands, where this sort of thing apparently also happens - but we are staying at a hotel that calls themselves one of the best hotels…... In a pinch, we retreated to the indoor pool (which is really spacious). But it was unbearable there because the kids were making such a racket. There's no restroom in the upper pool area either, so I had to go back downstairs for that - also there are no visible signs where the restrooms are. In our opinion, this doesn't meet a five-star standard, and it's certainly not one of the 101 best hotels. We think it deserves 4 stars, but not 5. We're glad we only booked one night to test it out; if we had booked two or three nights, we would have been pretty annoyed. On another note we must say, that all staff was very friendly and helpful. So far for testing Öschberghof, but this test was never what we expected and definitely not worth more than 500 EUR – the room didn't even have a balcony for that price.

Hotel Öschberghof is nicely located. Has fantastic spa facilities, large swimming pool and many different types of saunas. They have a number of restaurants to choose from, and a great golf course right by the hotel. The rooms are fresh, and the staff friendly. However, during my three day visit there, there were just too many service shortcomings, which is not acceptable for a five star hotel. These included excessive waiting times for food, lapses in the kitchen, ignorance of Corona-hygiene regulations, etc. The staff is courteous, but the shortcomings during my stay, large and small ones, indicate somehow a lack of proper staff training. There were way too many red flags for anyone who might have high standards for their vacation. All preconditions are actually there for the Öschberghof to be a top hotel and offer a pleasant stay, but this is unfortunately not a hotel I will recommend to friends and colleagues.
