“Fantastic wellness hotel”

This was the 3rd time we stayed in the Sackmann hotel and it was fantastic: very modern room with a great view, superb food, very friendly personnel and also excellent facilities. We really enjoyed the sauna’s! We already look forward to comeback next year.

Enroute between Strasbourg and Stuttgart, we stayed one night after an enjoyable hike earlier in the day, near Baiersbronn. I wasn't aware of the facilities, but availed myself of the pool on a beautifully warm October afternoon. So relaxing to take a dip and then enjoy the sun sinking in the sky on the rooftop deck, with drink in hand. One of the guests I spoke with said that he returned to stay for many reasons, but emphasized how good the food was. ...and the food was excellent! The soups were superb. Starters, entrees and dessert were, likewise, exceptional. Wines were reasonable. Decor was most pleasant. Pacing and service were spot on. (Breakfast was ample with many excellent choices). Room (older section of hotel), while not luxurious, was spacious, comfortable and perfectly fine . What a wonderful spot! One of the nicest hotels in our 2 week journey.

A Restorative Spa Retreat Sitting Right at Four Stars I truly enjoyed my stay at the Sackmann GenussHotel and would happily give it 4 out of 5 stars. It’s a refined spa hotel with many standout moments, and with a few thoughtful improvements, it could absolutely reach that fifth star. What I Loved 🌿 Forested spa views The infinity pool and sauna upstairs, with its floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the rolling Black Forest hills, offer views into the surrounding nature. The downstairs saunas facing the river are equally serene and thoughtfully designed. 🏊🏻‍♀️ Cozy wellness spaces The whirlpool and indoor pool area felt warm and inviting. The overall spa layout encourages relaxation and lingering - exactly what you hope for in a destination spa hotel. 🎨 Exceptional attention to detail Throughout the hotel, craftsmanship and care are evident: the mirrored ceiling in the wine bar reflecting the flowing river, elegant gold accents, impeccably maintained furniture, and luxurious robes all contribute to a sense of quiet indulgence. Where There’s Room to Improve 🛋️ Indoor pool seating atmosphere The seating area around the indoor pool could feel cozier - especially in the evenings. Slightly dimmer lighting, more atmospheric ambiance, and more secluded seating would help guests feel truly at ease while resting. ☀️ Outdoor lounge accessibility Unfortunately, the upstairs outdoor lounge area was unusable during our stay. It had rained prior to our arrival, and the cushions hadn’t been brought inside, leaving them soaked. A bit more foresight here would greatly enhance guests' experience. ⏰ Very early spa closing times This was one of the most frustrating aspects of the stay. The outdoor infinity pool closes at 7:00 pm, and the entire spa downstairs closes at 8:00 pm, which feels surprisingly early for a hotel that specializes in wellness and is located far from nightlife or city distractions. Guests come here for the spa, and later access (especially since the outdoor pool is not staffed) would make a world of difference. For example, stargazing from the infinity pool would have been magical, but wasn’t possible with such an early closing time. 🌡️ Outdoor pool temperature In the winter months, the outdoor pool could be just a touch warmer to make it more comfortable and inviting. 🥑 Lack of vegan breakfast options despite promises This was the biggest disappointment. Our vegan dietary needs were communicated well in advance and confirmed twice by staff, including at check-in. Despite this, the breakfast hostess told us she had not been made aware, and thus no accommodations had been prepared. The available vegan options were extremely limited (margarine, a spread, salami) and not particularly appealing or nourishing, which is disappointing for a hotel of this caliber. 🎂 Missed birthday acknowledgment It was my birthday during our stay - something noted in my booking information and communicated to the hotel. Unlike other hotels I’ve stayed at in this caliber range, there was no acknowledgment at check-in or during the stay. While not expected, a simple note would have been appreciated. Final Thoughts Overall, the Sackmann GenussHotel is one of the nicer spa hotels in the Black Forest - and that’s coming from someone who has visited many. The foundation is absolutely there: beautiful design, a strong sense of place, and moments of true serenity. With a few operational improvements and more attention to guest care, I can easily see this hotel earning its fifth star. I would gladly return, and I look forward to seeing how it evolves.
