Breakfast (7-10am): I think we only paid about EUR10 more for the B&B option per room all in all about EUR100. Well worth it. You will not be able to find a café close by to have breakfast outside of the hotel (no Starbucks in sight) and the price is reasonable considering you get a nice buffet. You will have some hot choices, scrambled egg and sausages (small German ones), selection of cold meats, selection of cheeses, selection of jams, some toms and cucumbers and mozzarella and Toms for savoury fans. There are three different choices of Toast and fresh bread (white, seed and Schwarzbrot) and rolls (sesame seed, Mohn and plain crusty). You can have butter or marg and 4 different jams, plus Nutella too. The coffee machine provides Cappucino, Milchkaffee (café au lait), Espresso etc. Different teas, including black also available. We tried one of the crystal waters (supposed to be slimming), sadly to no avail. Hotel & Beds: The hotel is not one of the wooden wall cladding, homely types in the centre, it is a little more modern in style on the inside. Two beds pushed together make the “Double”, not so romantic, but mattresses were comfortable and each with own quilt. Suited some of the party (we were 11 adults in all in 7 rooms). The bathroom might look plain and dated, but the shower is great. Luxury hotels eat your heart out at this kind of water pressure - Sure to wake you up. Other than that clean and tidy. Access after hours: Your key will open your room only, but the little key fob will open the front door and car park barrier at the click of a button and a beep. Door gets locked at 8pm. Location & Trains/Parking/Public transport: This hotel was ideal for us, as those of us who came by car could leave it at the back of the hotel and proceed on foot everywhere. You are allowed to drive through the pedestrian zome in the centre of town (slowly! otherwise you’ll get some looks) as you are a hotel guest. Most people just get around by bike and on foot here so it’s a different pace. I think our hotel is one of a few who has their own car park. It must be the last one before the pedestrian zone. All the hotels in the pedestrian zone can allow car access but the parking is the main car park 5mins walk away… The train station is 2 mins walk away. Coming from the train station cross the level crossing, walk towards the castle on the hill (you cannot miss it), get to T junction and turn right. Hotel Goethe is on the left opp Pizzeria Rebstock. The trains go fairly regularly to/from Bad Krozingen, direction Freiburg. Your checkin slip acts as your free public transport ticket for the whole area, it’s the KONUS ticket (all included in your room price). You can get to other towns in the area on the bus or trains. Dinner: We had the “Zuerichergeschnetzeltes” (young beef) and the “Rehgulasch” (venison) and a Gutedel (choose from Winzergenossenschaft or Ulmann, from the vineyard below the castle. You’ll be able to see it from your bedroom window). Very tasty meal at the Kornhaus. Lunch: Have the Maultaschen at the Gasthaus zum Loewen outside on their terrace overlooking the Rathausplatz and try another Gutedel or just have a beer or two. Shops: There are many small independent shops, pottery, crafts, jewellery, a traditional goldsmith’s, household goods, 4-5 clothes shops for all ages and a shoe shop Intersport Haaf (sports and all styles) on two levels with great service by Enzo and his team. Don’t forget to go to the Chocolate Schlaraffenland /Willy Wonka Choc factory that is Café Decker – I promise you will not know what to choose first. They have small cakes, medium cakes, large gateaux’ on 2 separate counters. Then a counter just for chocolate pralines…..good coffee and view of the little river Neumagen too. Or stop for a coffee in the more alternative café on the Hauptstrasse whose name escapes me…you’ll recognise it, it’s got orange wooden chairs outside with round lattice tables and blankets on the backs of the chair. For any garden enthusiasts go to Das Blumen Tor to get some ideas on ornaments or flower arrangements. Quality creations. We didn’t have time to take in any sights or attractions, but there’s plenty to see: Castle dating back to 1248, Museum of Pottery, Town’s museum, Dolls Museum, a Manor House. But you will feel a sense of history wherever you walk in this small picturesque/quaint town. Take your time. For those interested in the famous Alchimist Faust it is worth going during festival times for theatre events. In the summer they do have music events for a younger crowd, teens, twens etc in one of the old factories in the neighbouring towns. Tourism info: ti-staufen@muenstertal-staufen.de Arrival/Checkin/Checkout: For this hotel it is best you let the reception know what time you are arriving and leaving. This way you can make any arrangements for leaving your car, luggage until you are able to checkin around 3pm, as well as any arrangements for checkout at 11am. We were not due to leave for our various destinations until 1pm on the day of departure. The hotel let us leave our cars until that time for free. Staff are really friendly and helpful, but do remember that they are not there 24/7. Catch them for most of the morning, checkin time and until 8ish. But they are reachable anytime via mobile and close by. FREE Wifi in rooms! All in all this was such an easy stay and I’m sure we’ll be back to stay at this hotel again now that we found it. I would recommend this hotel anytime.

We got the deal from german groupon website for 4 nights with breakfast and parking for 129 euro. This was a very good deal having in mind that originally the price was between 300 and 400 euro. Generally the hotel as i saw at websites is kind of expensive but from the deal i bought was more than good. Additionally in the price (package) was also a free city tour of Freiburg ( a kind of alternative city tour with themes, walking in specific routes depending the theme, like walking to old cementaries etc. finally we couldn't try it, but sounds something different and nice to do). Also very important was included in the price, the Konus karte. With this card you can move with buses, trains etc for free in the region till Basel Hbf. Moreover you can have discounts to thermes spa, museums and many kind of attractions. The hotel is located in a nice and quite place called Staufen. The village has some shops which are open till 18:00. Staufen has also a train stop but it was closed due renovation (may 2013). If you have a car is not a problem to go to other villages nearby (Breisach, Heitersheim, Müllheim etc.) or to take the autobahn and go to Freiburg or to Basel. The scenic of the area in general and Staufen also is very beautiful and you can enjoy walking or biking. The hotel is clean, service is very nice, friendly and can help you to explore the area. Rooms are nice with view at a castle and a balcony if the weather is nice to sit outside. They have tv and wifi with good signal. Wifi is for free and you just have to log in with credentials that are given from the reception or the guide inside the room. After some time not using the internet you will need to have to give again user name and password. Coffee machine is available 24hours with a small cost and also there is a vendor machine for refreshing drinks. Arriving late is not a problem, just call the hotel and mention it and they will send you by mail the instructions to take your key, they have a great system. Parking is available at the hotel and even if the hotel is full, you will definitely find a space to park your car. The breakfast is excellent, with traditional and fresh things from the area and i can say that is one of the most healthy breakfasts i had in a hotel. Big variety to choose from a buffet, a professional coffee machine. You will enjoy it. The room was cleaned everyday and it is soundproof. Bathroom may need a small renovation because they looked kind old. In price that i found it as a package and all the things included i can suggest it as a very good choice. If you will find it for 4 nights with more than 250, i believe you can have also other choices.
