This is a little peace of heaven, in an out of the way setting. It's really very lovely. It has an old charm with period pieces, with some modernisation to make it comfortable for the taste of most travellers. It's clean and quaint. The staff are beyond fabulous. We had muddy bicycles and they let us clean the mud off by connecting a hose specially for us. They stored my medication that needs refrigeration and an ice pack that required freezing, with not even a second thought, only smiles. Everything was easy. They are so lovely. We laughed about what icecreams we should choose, between the German and English translations. The staff are naturally beautiful people. The restaurant is well frequented every day and night, no wonder, the food was beautiful. We sat outside as it was a lovely day and it was simplicity at its best. A lunchtime setting and later the tables had an evening setting. Quaint... Our room was above the outside courtyard and whist we had our window open and we could hear the voices, it was the sounds of people enjoying life and laughter from the good time they were having. Bliss... Life is for living. We fell asleep smiling. If you visit, it's an absolute must to venture into the church. Whist the outside is plain the inside takes your breath away. Not to be missed.

A charming, unpretentious former monastery. Our room was large, well furnished, very clean and had good quality bed linen on a comfortable bed. The staff were freindly and helpful. The gasthof is set in beautiful grounds with good walking straight out of the hotel. And an interesting collection of sculpture too. The restaurant is obviously popular with the locals and for good reason - the food is delicious. Not fine-dining, just quality ingredients well-cooked with a degree of flair. Highly recommended. And not expensive either!

We love this place—both the small hotel and the restaurant. It is one of our favorite places to stay in all of Bavaria. It is a restored monastery in a country/woodland/small village setting right on the scenic Salzach River, which forms the border with Austria. (There are wonderful trails to walk through the woods and along the river.) We have stayed here twice—once in 2011 and most recently in 2015. Each time we stayed two nights. (In addition, we had lunch here in 2005 when we were passing through.) Each visit was a delight. All the rooms we have seen are comfortable and attractive, with nice bathrooms. For our most recent visit we stayed in a ”superior” room, which had a view of a peaceful meadow and woods. (It might not be quite so “peaceful” in the summer time, however, since a patio-restaurant was right below our window; on this visit the weather was cool, so the patio was not in use. Also, during part of the time the dogs at a nearby animal shelter were fairly noisy when our windows were open.) On our earlier visit we stayed in a “standard” room which had a view of the charming traditional beer garden (complete with chestnut trees) and the church which is on the grounds. (The church, by the way, is well worth visiting.) The hotel is a great base for visiting this part of Bavaria, with plenty of free parking and easy access by car. Although there are surely many great places to visit in this part of Bavaria, we could also be happy just hanging around the hotel and grounds for a day or two. There is no elevator, but all the rooms are on the second floor (which Europeans call the first floor), and the stairs are easy to navigate. The restaurant is very popular among people who live in the area, and it’s easy to see why, since it has excellent food and excellent, friendly service in a charming atmosphere. I very much hope to stay at the Klostergasthof Raitenhaslach again.

“A delightful surprise with atmosphere and wonderful food”

This remodeled monastery has large, beautiful rooms in a rural setting with a restaurant that seems to be a bus tour stop but serves superb food. Very quiet and atmospheric. The adjacent school and woods lend an atmosphere of tranquility that is desirable.
