“Nice welcome, clean and spacious rooms”

Everything was brilliant except for the fact that it was not possible to get a table in the restaurant even though we were hotel guests, since the hotel is in an "off" location this was quite a disappoint to us, we were sure that there would be room for hotel guests that wanted to dine in

We had booked two rooms but arrived to find that the hotel did not have two adjoining rooms available, which did not suit us as we are travelling as a family with two young children. The hotel solved this very quickly by adding two beds to one of our rooms, a suite. This was a great solution as the suite was very spacious, with a walk-in wardrobe, large bathroom and terrace-sized balcony with 3 French doors opening out to it. The breakfast buffet was excellent with many fine choices, and could be taken outside overlooking the woods. We had booked dinner in their fine dining restaurant but as that was a single fixed menu, opted for their bistro menu instead, which was fine. The pool was very large with bright windows overlooking the tranquil grounds. The property is surrounded by woods which makes for lovely walks. The only downsides to the property are the enormous mosquitoes in the woods, which do find their way into the rooms through the few holes in the window screens. There was no air conditioning so we struggled with mosquitoes and the heat. We would be happy to return in cooler weather but in the summer, we would come armed with mosquito repellent and also check if they have installed good air conditioning before booking!

We stayed 2 night at the Romantik Hotel Bayerisches Haus in Potsdam to celebrate our wedding anniversay. Our overall stay was very nice and we enjoyed our room (thought the 90-ies furniture and design is a bit outdated), the spa and swimming pool, the surrounding forest as well as the excellent breakfast very much. We also didn’t have any moscito problems often mentioned in other reviews here! One reason however, why I chose the hotel was its Michelin star restaurant which at the time of the booking on the hotel webpage was announced to close 2 days later from July 4 for “summer vacation” to celebrate out anniversary so I asked for a table reservation along with my reaervation. A day later the Maître d'hotel Marko Grundmann wrote me an Email that there might have been a mistake on their website and that the Michelin star restaurant is already on summer vacation. Later on I read other reviews suggesting that the restaurant actually seemed never to have re-opened after the Corona lockdown, so an update of the hotel website would have been good. But never mind, we changed plans and booked a table at Kochzimmer, the other Potsam Michelin star restaurant for our anniversary and had a wonderful evening and dinner there. For the following night we then re-booked a table at the other restaurant of the hotel (which was open) on the terrace. This was for Friday July 3, 2020, which was a wonderful hot day in Potsdam with temperatures of 23 degrees at 20.00 and all restaurant terraces around the city completely crowded. When arriving at the hotel we were told by the Concierge that actually the restaurant management decided to not open the terrace that night and that guests would be served inside the restaurant. So another restaurant disappointment there and we decided short notice to dine out and not to be locked inside a Bavarian typ of winter hut ambiente on such a nice summer evening and found a wonderful restaurant terrace and food just nearby with an amazing view onto Lake Schwielow... So in a nutshell we booked a hotel for the dining experience which due to a rather bizarre communication and strategy we never had. But in both cases and evenings dining out turned out into the much better option...

“They don’t really understand the business of a hotel”

Be sure to ask for a room that doesn’t face the courtyard, because it is very noisy when there are parties. Loud music and and PA system prevent anyone with rooms on that side from getting to sleep before the party winds down. What are you generally paying a hotel for? A room to SLEEP. Good luck he… more

You’d think that in a place that’s out of the way, as this place is, it would be quiet. Think again.
