“Overall, a good and affordable stay near Frankfurt Main Station”

My few nights’ stay at the hotel was good. The hotel is located in the center of Frankfurt, just a few blocks away from Frankfurt Main Train Station, which you can easily reach within 5 minutes on foot. The distance to the heart of the city – the main Promenade – is walkable too, taking me around 12 minutes. The issue with the hotel’s location is the neighborhood, which is kind of trashy. There are many homeless people around the train station, and every night the whole area gets very loud until early morning, because of all the bars, clubs, and brothels. Many drunk people get extremely noisy, and I could clearly hear everything from the street through my open window, even though my room was on the 6th floor. This brings me to another hotel issue – security, which they don’t really have at night. During my stay the night shift was covered by just one small guy at the front desk, who spent most of the time on his phone and barely paid attention to guests coming in. Generally, the hotel staff were fine. One guy who usually worked during the daytime was very sweet to me, while some others just did their job without trying to be friendly. My check-in was fast and easy. A couple of nights before arrival I had requested a room on a high floor with as much natural light as possible, and they fulfilled my request. I got a Standard Room with 2 single beds (#606) on the 6th floor. The room was spacious enough for one person, in good overall condition, with a simple but neat design, very clean, and with furniture mostly in fine shape. I liked that the room had a large window that could be opened completely when I wanted some fresh air. The two single beds were not very comfortable, mainly because of their tiny size. I pushed them together, but they kept separating and creating a gap. The mattress was just okay. There was a small refrigerator and a kettle in the room, plus a box with a selection of teas and coffees. The closet was tiny (just one little section), but I appreciated having a luggage bench next to it. The bathroom was small, but I loved having a big, deep bathtub in there. The hotel’s bathroom amenities were very basic and smelled just okay. Wi-Fi worked well and was fast. One more thing that slightly affected my stay – the hotel’s elevator, which was tiny and slow, barely fitting 3 people; sometimes I had to wait a few minutes to use it. For my stay I paid €37 per night (it was supposed to be €50, but I used points and got a discount as an ALL Rewards program member). I found this price super reasonable for the overall experience, and even the original price would still have been fair. Finalizing my review, I can recommend this ibis for a short stay in Frankfurt, especially if you want to be close to Frankfurt Main Train Station. Just be aware of the very loud and sketchy neighborhood around it, and keep in mind that the hotel is basic, so don’t expect a high level of comfort.

Ibis Styles is supposed to be a leg above the basis Ibis which is a leg above Ibis Budget. Not here! When we checked in, the shower door was broken and the manager asked us to put towels on the floor to soak up the water that may fall! The shower was so compact, even by Ibis standards, that it was impossible to stand inside. It was impossible to sit on the toilet bowl to do what we do on the toilet without hitting your arms on the sink on one side and the shower on the other. It was impossible to access the toilet paper. The blinds were broken, and it was bright daylight until late in the night. The carpet was worn and frayed. Getting the room cleaned everyday was a drama. One afternoon we returned at 3.30 and the room had not been cleaned. The manager insisted it had been cleaned at 10 in the morning, and a "second" cleaning will not be done. He was lying through his teeth. On the plus side, the location is gruffy immigrant oriented with numerous ethnic and other restaurants of almost every possible cuisine, but very convenient to the train station and all forms of public transport. We were in the main building but apparently there is an adjoining annex which is even worse and has no air conditioning. It has no elevator either. Make sure you do not end up in this part of the hotel. I will not stay here the next time.

We were a bit disappointed being Accor Gold and being shoved out to a room on the first floor beside the main building. The desk clerk had to carry our bags up two flights of stairs as there’s no elevator access to the second block. The room was very basic and didn’t have a safe. We will not accept a room in this section when we return in July. 60+ year olds dragging bags down stairs is just disrespectful. The breakfast however is excellent.
