Hotel Am Ludwigsplatz

“Comfortable and in good location”

The room was OK but the bathroom was small. The breakfast was exceptionally rich. The hotel is located not far from Berliner Platz where one can take a bus in whatever direction one wishes. Also, it is walking distance from the town center.

We stayed here for a few days and were very pleased. Our double room at the front of the hotel was spacious, well maintained and very clean. Although near a road junction noise from the street was minimal as the windows were effectively triple glazed. There is free wi-fi albeit somewhat feeble. And there are a hand-full of parking places at the rear of the hotel. The staff were friendly and happy to help in English. The buffet breakfast was excellent both the breadth of choice and quality. It set us up for the rest of the day and served early enough for business travelers and late enough to be relaxing (I.e. 6.30 to 10.00 in the week). The location is great for Giessen centre. Across the road is the Dachcafe with views from the 12th floor restaurant and even better views from the open air 13th floor cafe bar. The theatre is a few minutes further away and the wonderful Botanic Gardens about 10 minutes walk. There are lots of cafes and restaurants in the nearby pedestrianised central area. Overall a good option at a reasonable price.

This is basic hotel built perhaps in 1970’s. Apart from flat TV all furniture look old but still well maintained. Choice of food for breakfast was basic too: eggs, sausages, cereals, bread/rolls and butter, juice, coffee or tea, yogurt, cheese. The reception in this hotel opens in the morning and closes in the evening.

“Bad Timing”

I arrived at this hotel a few days after heavy rains flooded the neighborhood, so there were problems to deal with upon arrival which guests were not warned about. First, the hot water did not get hot unless you let the faucet run anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes. I am not exaggerating. The TV didn't work. I was told both of those problems were due to the flooding. The wifi was ridiculous, every 30 minutes it cuts off so you have to sign in again. It was noisy and hot. There's no AC so i had to leave the windows open and i was on the loud street side of the building. That said, i found the breakfast and the room very satisfying, but the experience as a whole was disappointing and they did not offer any consolation after all that.
