We are currently on the way back from a trip around the Netherlands to Switzerland. This is certainly one of the great hotels in Aachen. There is tradition and history in every corner of the building, the room and the furniture. The staff is friendly, helpful, well trained and efficient. The rooms are clean, not to small and everything is working and functional. The furniture, the bed, the bath and shower, everything is properly maintained and from high quality. Our dog was welcome too which is not always the case in such hotels.

Typical old style hotel. It breathes an atmosphere of "those were the days" Very large rooms and comfortable. The best beds ever!! But this is not a business hotel. No electrical points next to the bed. Even at the desk, you need to crawl under the desk to find the extension wire with options to plug in the devices. For the bathroom, the bath is old style and is also the shower. Wonder how less flexible people get in there. The 1 knob shower is practical, however.....only practical when it working. Probably in my room the tap needs an overhaul, as twice during my 8 days stay, the temperature was impossible to adjust and serious hot water came out and impossible to get lukewarm water out.

We stayed at the Parkhotel Quellenhof in Aachen in a family suite and found the experience to be somewhat mixed. The room itself was a clear highlight, very spacious, bright, and comfortable. It had tall windows that brought in a lot of natural light, along with two large separate rooms and two full bathrooms, which made it a very functional setup for a family. The beds were comfortable, although the bathrooms felt dated and not recently renovated. Parking was another positive; there is an underground garage with direct access to the main building, and the spaces are large and easy to navigate. At around $21 per night, it felt reasonable and convenient. The hotel overall has a strong pre-war feel, with tall ceilings, wide hallways, and relatively sparse decoration in many of the common areas. The atmosphere throughout is quite austere, with large, open spaces that feel underutilized and at times almost empty. While there are some nicely designed areas downstairs, they lacked activity during our stay, which added to a somewhat quiet and slightly abandoned feel. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant one evening. The staff was extremely kind and helpful, and the food itself was good, with reasonably priced wine options. The setting is a large dining hall with dark wood floors and widely spaced tables, giving it a formal but subdued tone. Service was on the slower side. The main issue, however, was that toward the end of the meal we saw a mouse run across the dining room floor, from the area behind the tables toward an exterior door. While this may not be uncommon in older buildings, it is not something you want to encounter while dining. One broader consideration is that there are not many higher-end hotel options in Aachen. Much of the city was rebuilt after World War II, so it lacks some of the architectural charm found in other European cities. Net, while the hotel offers strong room configurations and convenient parking, the overall experience is uneven. If possible, Aachen may be better suited as a day trip, with a stay in a more charming nearby city.
