I do not usually stay in 3-star hotels, but, as I visit Paderborn frequently, I tire of staying at the same place each time, so I am exploring other options. The reviews of this hotel were good, hence why I stayed here. From first impressions, I made the right choice. Outside was clean and presentable, with plenty of parking. There were no commercial premises nearby, so there was no immediately visible risk of external noise during the night - this was later confirmed. The gentleman at reception was very friendly and even spoke in English to me - I believe that he is the joint owner with his wife. The room, which was non-smoking, as they all are, was well appointed for the 3-star standard - only the snob in me would complain about some of the furnishings, as everything was, in fact, clean and in good order. The bed was comfortable. There was a desk for me to work on. The shower was powerful and the water was hot. The restaurant was modern and comfortable. The menu was in German, but, although I understand enough German to cope, the owner was prepared to translate for me. The choice of food was ok, but not great. The quality of food was acceptable - I ordered carrot soup, which was nice, then the turkey salad, which was ok, but no better than what I could have made at home. Still, the prices were ok. The breakfast room was small, but not overly crowded. As it was a buffet breakfast, I expected a greater selection - it cost €5.00 per person, which is what the 4-star hotels in Paderborn charge, but the selection was disappointing in comparison. Still, it had enough there to fill me and get me ready for the day, so not a big issue. Check-out, like the check-in, was quick yet friendly. The overall cost was acceptable, although not too different from the 4-star hotels in the area. In short, I liked the hotel and would return if all I need is a quiet place to sleep, do a little bit of work, have breakfast and leave without any fuss in the morning.
