Klotten is a small place on the Moselle river about 5KM outside Cochem. Since no hotels were available in Cochem we booked two single rooms here during a busy holiday weekend in early May. Our navigation system directed us right into the centre of Klotten, which proved quite a challenge due to the very narrow streets and frequent turns. Visitors are better advised to park by the river and not risk scratching the car. We drove back down once we had deposited our luggage. Both rooms were clean and pleasant. One room had an en suite bathroom. The second room had its own separate bathroom which was located a few steps away across the hall. The hotel thoughtfully provided a bathrobe in the room. WIFI was included, and very reliable and fast. There is a ‘minibar’ outside in the hall stocked with drinks. The breakfast next morning was brought direct to the table, consisting of bread rolls, cheese and Wurst together with coffee. The waiter was friendly and attentive and at pains to make sure we had everything we needed. We returned the first evening from our day out in Cochem to find a lively atmosphere in the bar. Christa, the landlady, sang country and pop songs from the 60’s and 70’s for the entertainment of guests and locals. Some people were dancing and everyone seemed to be having a good, relaxed time. The high point was when she sang to us! The Dorfschänke is an excellent place to stay with easy access into Cochem. We felt welcome and were given good service throughout. The rooms had everything we needed at a fair price. What more could you ask for? We will definitely consider staying here again if we are in the area.

“Quirky and friendly”

We stopped into Klotten for one night before we heading South - choosing this location as it was near Colmar and their castle, but much quainter. We stopped into Klotten for one night before we heading South - choosing this location as it was near Colmar and their castle, but much quainter. The pension is above a pub (which is smokey but filled with friendly locals). Our room was a very good size, clean and had the basic necessities. The pension was quirky - it felt as though you were staying over at your long lost Aunt's house, not modern but cozy. Breakfast was included in the very reasonable rate and that was your normal German spread of breads, spreads, sliced meats, etc. Parking is a little tricky as the streets are twisty and narrow, but it is free and we found parking just down the small hill along the river banks.
