We stayed only for one night as a stop off from exploring Switzerland for a couple of days. Its location for Basel which we explored on day 3 was ideal. We did have good intention to make use of the free parking and get public transport into the city which is absolutely doable from here and relatively cheap. However as a party of 3 it still worked out significantly cheaper for us to just drive into the city and park which is what we did. There isn’t a hard border control at this part of the crossing. There were also a variety of places to eat from Subway, McDonald’s and a number of Kebab places. Our room was very spacious and very much like a small apartment with a separate entrance hall and kitchenette. The kitchen would have been perfect if it had a microwave but it just had a hob cooker and a fridge which also served as a minibar with fairly respectable prices. Given however we had two large supermarkets under our feet within the same complex - it didn’t make sense for us to use it. Back to the room which was very clean and had both a decent sized main bed and a good sized sofa bed. There was also air conditioning which was very much needed! Nice little welcome Haribo sweets too on the bed. Only downside of the room was the bathroom which had a few broken tiles and the shower head was leaking but it was still fully serviceable. The bed wasn’t the most comfortable and at times felt like a hard bit of cardboard but these beds seem to be standard around these parts. We had a lovely view across to France. None of the advertised TV channels worked but the WiFi was good and we just watched Netflix on our tablets. Check in was easy enough but don’t bother trying to check in ahead of time unless you paid for early check in (we didn’t know what was a thing here as we booked with a third party) but we could use the car park from when we arrived. At the time of writing the 5th floor of the car park is completely out of bounds due to construction and so you have to park on the 6th floor as a hotel guest. By the evening spaces were getting limited. General atmosphere of the hotel is hard to gauge due to the unique layout of essentially being based within a shopping centre. Would absolutely recommend the hotel for the location and it being fairly reasonably priced and well maintained in the main.
