Petra resort is ideal if you want a relaxing break. It's right on the beach and the main street is full of bars and restaurants. I don't need to recommend any as we stayed for 2 weeks at a different restaurant nearly every night and never had a bad meal. Most of the tourists are Dutch but they're friendly and their English is very good. All the menus are in English and it's spoken in the shops and restaurants. There are 2 very well stocked supermarkets and some nice gift shops. It's not the place to come for night life, there's no live music Greek nights, quizzes or bingo! Just the restaurants and bars though they stay open late and what's lovely is there's no pushyness from them trying to get you in, there's no hassle at all. There aren't many hotels mainly apartments like Toula. Stella and George are a lovely couple, very friendly despite limited English and Stella is always busy cleaning, sweeping or tending to her plants. The rooms were probably refurbished during lockdown and are a bit nicer than most basic Greek apartments, more like a hotel room. There's a fridge, sink, kettle and 2 hobs but no grill or toaster. It days hairdryer on request but there was one in a drawer, and an iron in the corridor so I needn't have brought mine. Rooms cleaned regularly with bins emptied and towels changed. Most apartments don't have a pool so it's nice that you can use the one at Stella apartments which is a few minutes walk. It's only small but not many guests used it when we stayed so we more or less had it to ourselves. I think most people go to the beach where the sunbeds are free if you buy a drink. We used Mojo and if you got a coffee you got a free small bottle of water and could stay as long as you want, they don't keep asking you to buy more. Lots of small, thin cats who come into the restaurants or you'll see them in the streets. We used to take any leftovers to the ones that hang out at the car park. You see a couple but as soon as the food appears there's loads of them 🐈🐈‍⬛️😺🐱😸 There's a little road train that takes you to Molyvos which is worth doing. It's 5 euros to do a round trip but worth paying 8 so you can hop on and off at the harbour, castle and beach to make a day of it. There are a couple of places doing boat trips and car hire though we didn't use them. Would be worth doing if you're staying for 2 weeks as there's not really much to do in Petra but swim, eat and drink! There is a church which is worth visiting for some fantastic views. We got a taxi from the airport and it's quite a way and cost 150 euros return but was a nice drive. I'd definitely recommend Petra as somewhere to come if you're looking to chill out.
