We arrived at the Met Hotel in October. Unfortunately it was the day after the pool had closed for winter and I had not checked before booking! The hotel staff are very friendly and efficient. We especially appreciated Mario and the staff in the restaurant. Our room was at the rear of the hotel and overlooked the railway, shabby buildings and the hills in the distance. Because the rooftop area was closed we were unable to sit in the sun because the balcony was north facing. The central courtyard received very little sun as well. We went to Thessaloniki primarily to see the monasteries. Unfortunately it was the one rainy day we had and there was low cloud. During the week two different monasteries a day open so it is worth checking which ones are open if you have a preference. As mentioned there is a free minibus to Aristotle Square from outside the hotel which is really good and we also used the number 31 bus. There are a huge number of places to eat in the city and just near to the hotel there is 4All convenience store with lots of choice for picnic lunches with very friendly staff. Next to the hotel there is a coffee shop called Smile which has a sunny table outside. We loved the museums, the churches and the Roman forum visitor centre (the forum itself was closed). There are an amazing number of coffee shops, restaurants and cafes in the centre. The market is also excellent.

“Ok hotel, in not ok area.”

The hotel is well designed but located inside an old industrial/port, decadent, area. Not nice to walk at night. Abt. 15 minutes walk from the more lively city centre. Parts of the hotel start to need renovation. The reservations department is so-and-so. The reception staff was quick and efficient.… more

“One time stay- not a repeat”

I am a platinum member >370 Marriott nights My group stayed in town but (big mistake) I chose to stay loyal to the brand and chose the MET. The bad: - Location- its close to nowhere and despite having a shuttle, it departs once an hr and stops at 18:00.... - The location is in an industrial area, not my first, second, or third choice of a location. - The gym opens at 8! (they can open it upon request) but HELLO...do Greek people avoid training? also as the gym is in the basement it has very little energy or life to it. Prior I stayed at Moxy Athens (yes..yes...Marriott hotel) and the gym was full of inspirational quotes to drive you as you get some sweat in the basement of a hotel. (I did go for a run outside but the first and last 600-700 meters were not fun...again...industrial area). - Indoor pool/hot tub- the indoor pool is just a large bath..maybe 10 meters long, its not for swimming....the hot tub is broken... - Room #1- received an "upgrade" - which meant the room faced some night club. The base was going strong, so I requested a move - Room #2- smaller room facing the "port" (better not to look outside...not a good view). The bath/shower makes NO SENSE. The bath is only protected by glass for 20% of its size, which means a swimming pool on the floor by the time you finish your shower. - Breakfast only starts at 7 (didnt know Thessaloniki is a party town but in 99% of hotels, breakfast starts at 6:30). - The hotel is built with an internal court yard/doors facing it. If people laugh in the halls you'll hear them, The good: - Breakfast was very good, fresh items, good selection, and great service. - Service by reception- despite driving them crazy with my room requests, they were patient and very helpful. Ultimately If i had a choice whether to stay again, I wouldnt...this is why i gave it 3 stars.
