Our five days at this resort were exceptional. Pristine beaches, warm sea with transparent water, absolutely incredible food and friendly helpful staff. The rooms were beautiful chalets, airy and comfortable with air conditioning and good internet. While we were expecting the Bijagos archipelago to be a tropical paradise, and it did not disappoint at all, what took us by surprise was the excellent cuisine. The menu is varied and generous, locally sourced and extremely sophisticated.

This great waterfront Rubane island Resort is a paradise. Breakfast is a Buffet with coffee, portuguese juices and made to order egg and omelet station, pastries and yogurt. The full bar is not included in the inclusive meals plan of breakfast buffet, lunch, and dinner. You can chose from several options for appetizer, main and dessert prepared by The French Chef. Options include grilled fish, seafood, dishes and pasta and meat and lamb. Our group preferred the shrimp preparations and stuffed crab. The captain fish, ,ceviche, various skewer preparations are excellent. Selects from Desserts like lava cake, ice cream, flan, mousses, and our favorite cannon ball with sweet stuff finside a large dark chocolate ball. Excellent. Presentation. The full bar offers cocktails, wines, and beers. Open air Dining settings include 4. -6 person tables, and a larger group area on deck with twinkling lights. 40 unique bungalows offer various and layouts to accommodate single travelers, couples, families, and any size groups. Bathrooms offer a hot water walk in shower, own toilet, mosquito nets. Hard woods, reeds, and other native highlight the decor in cabinets and sitting area. Each front porch is decorated with local wood carving. Some porches are in shade and some in full sun. The central resort area includes an excursion shop, displays of local wood works and handicrafts for purchase. Outstanding housekeeping All staff is absolutely great. DREAMY BEACH HOTEL - Ponta Anchac - Guinea Bissau After some long bumpy dirt roads and interesting accommodations we 5 took a speed boat to the hotel lodge Pointa Anchac located on Bubaque Island in the archipelago of Biharis. It is a classy beach paradise with a pool. Our wooden bungalow was on the sand with a big umbrella - like thatched roof on the sand in front with lounge chairs under it at waters edge. The ocean was warm as was the staff. Wonderful meals with local fresh fish and huge shrimp was served at our white table clothed dining table on stilts over the sand and surf. And yes, the best coldest beer ever! 😀! If you want to relax on the beach in Guinea Bissau this is the place!

“Wish I had skipped it.”

This is a 2.5 - 3.5 hour boat trip to get here and it's rather rough. From the boat, the place looks very appealing, and the warm welcome with a free drink from the bar was much appreciated. However, the "rooms" varied drastically between poor and very nice. We ended up in a "cabin" that had another tiny room attached where someone else was staying. So, we were unable to use our deck or leave our drapes open for the view. And below our deck was the "beach" -- actually just a bunch of horrible rocks. Air conditioning worked fine -- for the main room / bedroom, but there was no way to get air conditioning into the bathroom so toileting, brushing your teeth, etc was a steam bath. Minimal toiletries provided so be sure to bring your own (other than soap). The breakfast buffet was pitiful. Very limited fruit and "pastries" easy to skip. Crepes, waffles and scrambled eggs -- cold. Lunch and dinner were definitely better. Nice selection that got even more impressive when the national political leader came to stay. We ended up with lobster salads for lunch and grilled lobster, oysters, etc for dinner. Once he and his group were gone, meals went back to good, not special. There is NOTHING to do on this island, and by the end of our 3 nights we were "island crazy." The only place to really walk is on the beach -- and at least that is sandy beach at the other end of the property. Some of the rooms were situated along this sandy beach -- lucky them. So, overall I know the owner worked hard to establish this place and works hard every day to help guests enjoy their stay, but this was a waste of 3 days as far as we were concerned. And definitely not worth the long boat ride each way.
