I enjoyed my short stay. I had the comfort, cleanliness and good food of a hotel with the informality of a hostel. The staff were attentive and friendly without being too formal

“DECENT PLACE VERY CENTRAL BUT NEED'S TWEAKING”

Like all of my hostel visits over many years of travelling through Europe, you generally get what you pay for and in a hostel you invariably have to take the rough with the smooth. In no particular order I will list my pro's and cons for this establishment. First the pro's; The breakfast is very good and consists of bread, ham, cheese, croissant, muffin tea, coffee and the best orange juice I've ever tasted. The layout of the hostel is easy on the eye and has seating areas inside next to the dorms and at front of desk where breakfast is served. All the staff are very helpful and knowledgeable and always work with a smile on their faces. The location of the hostel is just an 8 minute walk to many attractions and a 13 minute walk to the main railway station. The furnishings are of very high quality which makes for a more pleasurable experience. The shower in my dorm always had red hot water ready to use at any time of the day. The cons are obviously personal to me so many of these I'm about to mention may not bother another guest. I particularly like my privacy when in a dorm so a hostel that doesn't have individual night lights at each bed or a privacy curtain that wraps around the bunk is not something I'm a fan of. There are no lockers in the rooms, they lie elsewhere in the hostel which isn't the best situation to keep having to leave you room to get something. Although the breakfast is very good it does come at a cost if you buy it separately at 14,50€. I booked my room with breakfast so you get a better deal. There's no kitchen here only what the describe as a kitchenette. This basically is a sink unit, a couple of bins, minimal cutlery, plates bowls cups and glasses, a microwave and a kettle. I stayed in a 6 bed dorm which only had 1 toilet and 1 shower within the room. This wasn't a problem in March but I can imagine long waiting periods to use the services during the busy months. The dorm had a long upright window next to the door which very annoyingly used to let the main light for the foyer outside of the room through it. This light seemed to be on all night and used to shine in like the sun which I totally disliked given what I've already mentioned about no privacy curtain. Finally, the cleaner seemed to do a certain job and nothing more. I arrived and a previous guest had left rubbish and a used plate on the dorm table...when I left it was still there 3 days later. The same went for used bags and shower gel bottles left in the toilet after someone had departed. Surely if the cleaner sees they're finished with - as I did - you would thing she would sort it all out, instead it was me who threw everything away!
