This hotel is the Best!!! I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Amsterdam. Located right on a canal, it is in a beautiful and quiet location, but will within a 5 minute walk of everywhere you want to go. The staff here is PHENOMENAL- Fatty, Stefan, the woman who I forgot to ask her name (sorry!!!) and the others are beyond helpful, friendly, soooo nice and made us feel like family. The breakfast is delicious, and the best part - the room is so spacious! You don’t expect this in Europe. It’s huge with a very nice, big bathroom. The decor is amazing too, every little detail. Very very very great value for the money. Don’t go anywhere else!

“Great boutique hotel overlooking canal”

Lovely boutique hotel on a quiet street overlooking the canal. Friendly staff who were great with restaurant recommendations. The bathroom was modern and clean with a good strong shower. The bedroom itself was more dated. We took a room overlooking the canal, although small it was a lovely setting.

If there were half stars,I would rate this 4.5. As this is our first time to Amsterdam, I did a lot of research into what part of the city to stay in, followed by hotel choice. It quickly became clear the canal district was where we wanted to be as there is so much history and opportunity for exploring here. As you have probably read, Hotel Sebastian’s has very good reviews. We stayed in room 229 witha canal view. Here’s why in my opinion there are so many good reviews. 1. it’s located on a canal offering many rooms with a canal view (like ours). 2. It’s on the outskirts on the canal district, so it’s relatively quiet and uncrowded, but close enough to walk to many locations. For destinations too far to walk, Uber is a fairly inexpensive option. 3. Our room was extremely clean and exceeded our expectations. 4. The bed is very comfortable. 5. The staff has been very friendly and helpful. 6. It has an elevator, so getting bags to higher floors is easy. 7. I found the coffee made by the in-room coffee maker to be quite good. 8. They offer a flat rate breakfast which is convenient. No hotel is perfect and Hotel Sebastian’s is no exception. Here’s what you need to know before making a decision (IMO): 1. Hotel Sebastian’s was originally a canal house and is three- or four-hundred years old. This places severe limitations on hotel design and the rooms are small or awkward. Our room has two horizontal structural 6”x10” beams in one room that are 5’ high. You have to duck once or twice to get to the canal/street side of the room. Surface space is also very limited. End tables are tiny. There’s a 4”x20” shelf in the bathroom. But the cabinet under the sink is empty and can be used for storage. It’s not your typical hotel room, but then how could it be? Just setting expectations here… 2. Access to outlets is in all the wrong places. I had to move things around. This is a real and necessary opportunity for improvement as outlet availability is a basic expectation these days. 3. There is a room safe, but it isn’t secured to anything and could easily be carried off. 4. It’s been cool here and we need a little heat in the morning, but I couldn’t get the Mitsubishi wall unit to consistently put out heat. It was erratic. 5. There’s no seal at the shower door bottom and water leaks out to the bathroom floor. I put the floor mat directly up against the door which helped, but it still makes it sopping wet. 6. Stairways are poorly lit which creates a safety hazard as stairs are narrow and somewhat steep. 7. We found the breakfast menu to be quite limited and it didn’t even include any fresh fruit. After two days we needed an alternative and can now highly recommend Pancake Bakery, a five minute walk from here. All that said, the pros far outweigh the cons and we can highly recommend Hotel Sebastian’s. We would definitely stay here again.
