We stayed for 5 nights at the XO Van Gogh hotel as a couple and chose it based on price and location. We enjoyed our stay very much. We were offered a bigger room than the twin we had booked directly, which was on the first floor overlooking a school in a quiet area close by the Van Gogh museum and Rijksmuseum. Staff on reception at all times, a safe in the room, mini fridge and coffee machine. Air conditioning made a good sleep temperature and the bed was very comfortable. Only one bedside light which seemed a bit odd, however we managed. Everything was clean and in decent order, with excellent shower and lots of hot water. We had no complaints. Price was reasonable for location, so handy we could walk most places! Loved the pleasant neighbourhood and happy sounds of children playing below. We had breakfast at the hotel on two mornings, good value, lots to choose from, hot and cold. I was a bit worried by some of the negative reviews here but our experience was good so I can recommend the XO Van Gogh to anyone looking for a comfortable hotel near the centre that doesn't cost a fortune, with lift and reasonably sized rooms in good order. Nothing luxurious but it's 3*.

“Provided everything we need, safe & sound”

Great location, friendly & helpful staff, nice clean room. Coffee machine in room. No 12 tram line to/from main station. Would stay there again.

I don't know why some people are giving bad reviews as this place is perfectly fine! We were really worried after seeing some of the comments. The reception, rooms and breakfast area were clean and tidy. The lady on reception when we arrived wasn't particularly smiley but the rest were lovely - especially George who went out of his way several times to help us in any way he could. We had 2 rooms - a twin on the first night on the 4th floor, and we moved to a triple room on the ground floor for the next 3 nights after our friend joined us. Both rooms were great - clean crisp sheets and towels, clean bathrooms, lovely showers, tea and coffee making facilities (you can easily get more coffee pods and tea bags etc from the breakfast bar in reception). OK the towels weren't huge 5-star fluffy ones but then this isn't a 5-star hotel! They weren't the largest but were adequate and certainly weren't worn out. They were replaced every day, even though we didn't need them to be. Plenty of loo rolls too. Also, not a homeless person in sight! The location is great - it's in a really nice area and mostly quiet as it's residential. There is a primary school opposite so the kids make some noise at playtime, but we were up and out by then so it didn't affect us. The nearest tram/bus stop is "Museumplein" and the bus from the airport stops there which is just a few steps away from the hotel - really easy. When you arrive at Schiphol, follow the signs for the buses and look for bus stop B17. Opposite you'll see a red minivan (see photo) which sells the tickets. It was around 11 euros for a return ticket. Go back to the bus stop and look for a 397 bus and get off after 30 minutes at "Museumplein" - there is a screen inside the bus telling you which stop you're at. Don't bother taking the train from the airport as Grand Centraal station is a long way from the hotel. Trams are a really cheap, fast and air-conditioned way to get around, and you just tap in and tap out using a credit card. Use Google maps to see which tram number you need. Plenty of breakfast to fill you up - freshly baked croissants were great! There is a toaster for you to make your own toast
