don't be put off by online pictures. This is a lovely hotel with lovely staff. Room and hotel very clean. Food was very nice dinner & Breakfast. We had a lovely double room and quite location and instant hot water in ensuite.

We stayed here for on night on the 23rd December. We booked and paid for the Mansfield castle (owned by the same people) in May/June time. A week or so prior to our stay we received an email to tell us that due to unforeseen circumstances the castle would be closed and they had moved us to the morangie hotel. We were really disappointed as we had booked so far in advance, but understood that these things happen and we were grateful that they had arranged an alternative accommodation for us as we wouldn’t have found anywhere at such short notice at this time of year. On arrival, we were actually told (by a staff member) that the owners didn’t want to pay for the heating in both properties so decided to close the castle and keep morangie open over Christmas to save money! This disappointed us greatly and we felt cheated as the castle was our first choice of accommodation and we thought that the “unforeseen circumstances “ must have been a genuine reason for its closure - the owner could have told us this when we booked - or closed out that reservation period. The morangie was actually cheaper to stay at when we booked but wanted to stay in a castle, so knowing the truth left a bitter taste and disappointed. The morangie was a nice old Manor House, there were potholes on the drive and car park, the decking at the front of the house is all rotted away and dangerous. We were told that you are not allowed food in your rooms. The room was spacious and clean but very dated. The bed was comfortable, but the room was boiling hot and we couldn’t sleep at all. The breakfast was very good. The morangie was nice, but due to the circumstance of our stay, I would not stay again or recommend due to the dishonestly of the owners.

We recently spent 2 nights at the Morangie House Hotel, when in the area to attend a family funeral. We were familiar with the hotel having stayed there around 30 years ago. We had a very spacious room with a bay window and other windows. This twin room had two large double beds and there were all the usual bedroom amenities. Strangely the wardrobe had no depth for clothes, as seemed to have been created by utilising half the space of an adjoining door. Decor in the bedroom certainly required updating, and more thorough cleaning should be undertaken. The bathroom was extremely small in comparison to the very amply apportioned bedroom, and was very dated. The shower being within the very slippery bath was less than ideal. However, having encountered this before, for safety we carry our own rubber suction bathmat. Our dinners on two nights were excellent, and the breakfasts on both mornings were very good - compliments to the chef. The downside was the surroundings of a very dated and soul-less dining room, with only a few diners there one night and two just leaving as we entered on the second night. The staff were all very pleasant at the Reception Desk and in the dining room. Sadly though the entire hotel requires some quite serious TLC - a major refurbishment/upgrade. The drive up to the hotel needs the large and hard to negotiate potholes filled in, (the drive for deliveries is in an equally as poor state). This gives such a bad impression of the establishment, as does the area around the entrance with the number of sizeable weeds and dead plants around the steps and frontage. This was a lovely hotel when we last stayed there - but it has gone downhill considerably. I sincerely hope some money can be poured into massive improvements to make it what it once was.
