First, the staff was always exceptional. We were in town for Ironman Kalmar and stayed 6 nights. First, the location cannot be beat for this race , the finish line is just a couple feet away from the hotel. The hotel itself is really quite lovely and old which means they have very different rooms, not sure any two are alike. We have traveled in Europe plenty of times to know most hotels do not have ac and this one was the same way. The one exception is they had only 6 rooms that did have ac in them. First room we were given was a tiny dark room with a small skylight window and it was very warm in that room. I went down to the front desk and asked if they had any not so claustrophobic rooms and they were able to accommodate us for that night and said they would figure out a more permanent solution after people ckd out the next morning. And they were true to their word and found us a nice room that even had ac. Shower doors fold in which was a little quirky but it worked. There was plenty of room for two suitcases, a bike and all the gear that goes along with it. Breakfast was ok, didn't like the lactose free scrambled eggs. We did try the restaurant on site and food was good and it was lovely to sit outside and eat. The location was fabulous just a short walk around not only for the race but also to fin other restaurants and such. Highly recommend it for the race or any other time. Front desk service was excellent!

This was the perfect hotel for a perfect weekend. From start to finish Ida and the team looked after us, made us feel welcome and reacted quickly to questions and requests. It was Ironman weekend and this is the busiest time of the year in the city, and it was clear that volume of demand was very high, but the team were cool and calm at all times and extended a very warm welcome to us. The hotel was charming, quirky, historic, perfectly placed in the square and ideal for our needs. The food was excellent, but we only tried breakfast where there was a wide choice available. The room could do with a bit of an update, particularly in the bathroom, but it was comfortable, clean and big enough for the three of us. Looking forward to returning in the future - perhaps for Ironman 2026!

From the turn of the century - the century 19-20 that is. And has kept quite some atmosphere. Mainly due to the architecture, which is hard to basically alter. Now modern, but not fancy boutique. Rather low down and very functional. It is commendable that hotels try to save some history while making it modern and useful at the same time. And so has Calmar stadshotel done. We had an "attic room" - very comfortable with all amenities you need for a night or two. Lovely comfortable beds and just fine renovated bathrooms. At our visit the main restaurant was closed for a kitchen renovation. However, through the on board pub some basic pub dishes could be ordered. The pub itself is very noisy and bustling (as it probably should be), but an ordered dish (type burger or so, so) can be had in the main reception lounge if you want some more dignified and quiet venue). Usual pub stuff menu. Breakfast in one of the old beautiful ball rooms. Everything in place - without any fancy. Just an ordinary Swedish breakfast. There's an adjacent spa facility - Santai - which we did not try this time. But could be a bonus for a stay. On the whole very nice hotel with a mix of keeping tradition and upgrading to modernity in parallell. Recommended!

“Nice hotel in city center,”

Nice hotel and a nice room, nothing to complain about. It was placed in the city center. It was easy to reach resturants and shopping areas from the hotel.
