“Ambleside weekend away”

The location of this hotel is perfect to access all local places. Although basic the room was well equipped and very clean.

Ambleside Central is situated on the main street through the middle of the town. It's a clean and comfortable place to stay to and explore the local area. We stayed in the large family room for which there was four of us. The room came with a large external bathroom which was across the hall way and not ensuite. The mortice lock was difficult to operate and younger members of the group required assistance. The shower ran out of hot water a few times and unfortunately there was nowhere to dry the towels if you wanted to use them again, the towels rails never came on, probably not suitable for families with young children especially when you bump into other guests in the corridor. There was a bit of outside noise in the evening but being situated over a take away and bar it was to be expected. The rest of our family group who were in three other rooms had no problems and were all ensuite. The main entrance door and the door to each room have an electric key lock, at first they can be puzzling to operate but once you've got the hang of it they're quite simple.

Clean and spacious - lovely loft room with abundant hot showers. I hate to say there was a negative but there was, and I just can't avoid mentioning it. As others have. There's a bar downstairs - and don't go imagining this might be some charming old rustic inn where you could find ole Wainwright himself supping a pint of Awd Rodger. This is something more suited to a student crowd in the city centre, or perhaps on the strip at Magaluf or Spetses. Amplified noise, EVERY night, whether it's from the karaoke, the visiting band, the live football, or just the drinkers and vapers congregating in the street till gone 11. We had a choice - suffocate with the windows shut, or wear earplugs. And neither really worked. It really spoils the hotel and to an extent the whole town. I daresay the bar-owner - and maybe the hotel owner, too - would point to it being rammed full with young folk spending money all night. And normally, I'd think - fair enough. But why should one group have their fun at the expense of another? I don't make much, and it cost me hard-earned money to have a few days away with my son - I won't say the holiday was spoiled by the bar but it was a significant drawback, throughout our stay.
