Fantastic night's stay, lovely location. Enjoyed the cream tea, breakfast was hot, despite being buffet style. Room was amazing, Staff were attentive

The Talbot is indeed a lovely old, historic pub, located in an extremely picturesque location. The Green opposite is perfect for a leisurely walk and a chance to glimpse the variety of property, in this hamlet seemingly saved in yesteryear. We stayed for two nights and decided to upgrade to a four poster bedroom. The cleanliness of which left something to be desired, which was disappointing. Unfortunately the hotel seems to overly rely on the historic heritage it has and overlook some very basic housekeeping. Simple basics like not clearing away used plates and glasses in a timely way. For example, an hour later the same used crockery were sitting in exactly the same place. This may be explained by the apparent non existent management oversight. The young staff were covering different locations in the hotel at the same time, although at the time we stayed the hotel was not busy. There is a lovely glass dining room extension, letting in the sun and is full of light. I am not sure when the last time was when the floor was cleaned though. These small details catch the eye and are a distraction to the enjoyment of the characterful feel, in particular of the older part of this hotel. We enjoyed our brief stay at the Talbot, particularly enjoying trying to discover more about the history of both the Talbot hotel and the local area. Staff were friendly and pleasant.

Beautiful old building. We were initially put in one of the outside annexe type rooms. Looking out onto a building site, wardrobe was rickety hand-wash not filled. Room seen better days. Not what we signed up for. Asked to be moved. Pleasantly surprised with the room inside, nice, clean, comfortable bed and bathroom. Approach to room very unkempt, dirty walls, doors and carpets on main landing. Such a shame. Breakfast was good choice. The young gentleman was very pleasant attentive and made breakfast a nice experience. Nice outlook from conservatory. We were one of the first down. Unfortunately young man was very apologetic as the coffee machine obviously hadn't been cleaned or drip tray emptied from previous day as we couldn't get it to work until he emptied it. Always like to find out a bit of feedback from locals about area and views on where we're staying. Unfortunately not a great reputation one local explained exactly what we could expect from bar area. Also from his experience trying the restaurant 3 times, we were advised not to book an evening meal. This Would explain why noone seemed to be eating there. He also explained what to expect if we used the bar area. True to his word. We decided to try it anyway. 3- 4 young staff unmanaged, huddled at the end of bar chatting about personal stuff and on phones (should be banned) needs to focus on customer interaction. Partner asked for a pint of ale. Came out cloudy definitely not used in a while, one sip anymore would have been disastrous. Sent back. Not the youngsters fault, obviously no training. I asked for a sml red wine (125ml ) Lge poured 250ml. I do know measures being in hospitality. Actually charged for a medium 175ml. For customer great not so for hotel. With a bit of TLC and attention to detail and training this could be a wonderful place to stay, has so much potential. Cleaning especially carpet cleaning, dusting in public places ie bar breakfast rooms would make a good starting point. Dust on windowsills and shelves could write name in. Receptionist was pleasant
