We spent 7 nights at the Hotel Xcaret Mexico family resort for our Georgia Spring Break. We flew into Tulum because it was cheaper skymiles than flying into Cancun. Hotel Xcaret will pick you up from either airport you just coordinate with them. We arrived mid morning and there was a small wait at check in, it took about an hour total. We were greeted with popsicles and there was a drink cart for coffee or cool drinks while we waited. We were assigned a river view room in casa Viento in the Phase 1 of the resort. I loved the view from our room and the central location of casa Viento. I did NOT love that 3 of the 7 nights we were there, there were VERY loud weddings outside our room that had our walls and furniture vibrating and thumping until 11pm each night. I feel like Hotel Xcaret should NOT put families with children under 10 years old in these rooms, it should be for the wedding block guests. But we did the best we could, but after a long day in the parks, not being able to sleep until after 11pm every night was frustrating for kids who are used to being asleep by 8pm every night. We had great housekeeping every single day without fail. Our minibarista refilled our minibar every other day. Overall I felt the service at Hotel Xcaret was good and everyone we encountered was very kind and helpful. Since we were there for Spring Break week, I believe the resort was at max capacity and you could definitely feel this. I will say because we are an early to rise family it served us well, if we got to Mercado at 7am when breakfast opened, there was no line. But by 7:20am, there was a line out the door. So if you time yourself you can avoid the long buffet lines even on max capacity weeks. While at Hotel Xcaret, we visited Xcaret Park (the original park), Xel-Ha, Xplor, Xenses and did the small tour called Xenotes (where you visit 5 different cenotes and do a different activity at each of them). We LOVED hotel Xcaret and all the parks! The other part is, your food and drinks INSIDE the parks are included as well! The buffets in the parks were like $40/pp and we could go as many times as we wanted and it was not additional for us! The only thing on our bill at the end of the week was the photo package I purchased, which given we got several hundred photos, I thought it was a good deal at less than $1 per photo. Xel-ha is this natural spring fed lagoon down by Tulum, and most everything you do here is wet and in a swimsuit. Lockers and buffets and drinks are included! Ice cream is included too! Some people don’t love this park but we loved snorkeling the lagoon and seeing the sting rays and colorful fish, floating down the natural lazy river, jumping off the cliffs of courage, zip lining into the water, the children’s world playground which is amazing. SO COOL! But it’s a full day! Xenses is a half day park and everything in this park is about stimulating and playing tricks on all your senses. It’s SO COOL! Like the little town where they have skewed your perspective and it looks like you are going uphill but you are going downhill because they have tricked the horizon line! It’s hard to explain but as someone who draws and models perspectives for a living, I thought it was SO FUN! Plus there is a water slide, the bird flight zipline, the mud sluggerie float and the salt water float. So many selfie stations for the photo package here! It’s so fun I bet Teens would love it! XPlor is the adventure park, and where I thought we might die. This is legit high zip lines, amphibious vehicles you drive through mud and caves over 5km. There are these AMAZING caves you can swim or raft through. There are oasis drink and juice stations all over the place that are included as well as a buffet lunch restaurant. And they grill up steaks to order on the buffet! I was shocked! The XCARET PARK is the largest and the original park. It’s hard to describe. It’s part Zoo, part aquarium, part cultural center, aviary, butterfly pavilion, snorkeling lagoons, cenote river swims, swim with dolphins, sharks, manatees or stingrays. Cultural shows all over the place. The children’s world is a water park and play ground combined! We spent like 2 hrs in the children’s world just chilling while the kids played on the climbing equipment and water slides while i chilled in the cenote pool. Also you can take a BOAT from hotel Xcaret to Xcaret park via the canal system and it will actually take you through the Occidental hotel to get there which is kind of neat! The last excursion we did was the Xenotes Tour which is a small group tour of 5 different cenotes where you kayak, snorkel, zipline, cliff jump and swim through all these cenotes which are all different with a guide and photographers who are both amazing! Best day of the trip and every day was amazing! Highly recommend! Buy th e photos! Hotel Xcaret has a weird archaic restaurant and park reservation system though that you should be aware of before booking, and nobody tells you this unless you have a travel agent who specializes in hotel XCARET. You have to send in a wishlist of what parks and what dinner restaurants you want 30 days prior to arrival. This doc and instructions are all in the “Fans of Hotel Xcaret Mexico” group, there is some very useful info in the pinned threads and documents that make your stay a lot smoother. Hotel Xcaret is enormous and crazy beautiful, but it's not an easy chill vacation but it was FUN. There are all these natural spring fed rivers that run through the resort and you swim these rivers and there are hidden slides built into the lagoon cliffs you find that are so fun! There are over 20 restaurants, and every single one was amazing! We had dinner at La Silla, Xin-Gao teppanyaki, Las Playas, Las Cuevas and Monarca. Plus the buffets were incredible, we had Mercado for breakfast every single day. Chibali was a great lunch for my kids, with lots of american food for my kids. We can’t wait to go back! But it will likely be 2-3 years before we make it back. But if you are looking for a place that has ALL the activities built in for your active family and you don't mind being super proactive on the front end of your trip to get the restaurant reservations you need prior to arrival, I highly recommend Hotel Xcaret!
