Loved our stay in this modern but comfortable and impeccably clean hotel. Such a great contactless concept and the versatility of the room was perfect for us. Not to mention the cool tech in the room and the automatic blinds. Lovely quiet location and a stones through from the station for a 3 minute train into the centre. Nice little shop and bar below and shopping centre about 10 mins walk away. The shared lounge/backyard is wonderful, well equipped with pool table, full kitchen, comfortable seating areas, Xbox, games and lots of lovely little freebies like tea, coffee, butter, jam & fruit 👌🏻 couldn’t ask for more

“In love with the Smart Concept”

I was a bit worried about the smart experience after reading the reviews but it turned to be absolutely amazing and seamless. Room was amazing, had everything we needed, super clean and space was good. Kitchenette was fully equipped. Especially loved the coffee machine. Hotel is right next to train station. Was great having a supermarket in the building. The only thing I wasn’t fond of was that the toilet door was transparent (not sure why) but we managed to flag it whenever any of us was inside the bathroom so that no one would approach.

We liked our stay because it was different and very convenient to have the train and supermarket so close. We weren’t that fussed with the tech - having to use our phone to get in through all the doors etc. it didn’t always work and we just can’t be bothered with the mucking around. Lars was very helpful and quick to respond to our cries for help. We just prefer the old fashioned way - we didn’t know this before booking. The bathroom was awesome, the storage really good. The kitchen had what we needed, and we could get more from the common room if not. The roll out bed wasn’t the best - a little uncomfortable and kept rolling back in when one of us got out of the bed. Pillows were okay but could’ve had 2 each. One chair in the room for 2 people is not good. Sitting on the bed to eat meals was not comfortable or easy. Trying to figure out all the lights, air con etc. some labels would be good - wasted a bit of time each day trying to remember which was off and which was on and which light or appliance it referred to. Loved the common room for games of pool and relaxing with a cup of coffee.

Having checked out from Stay KooooK Bern City before checking into Bern Wankdorf, I've got to give it 4 stars instead of 5. While Bern City gave a refreshing and warm feel (even without the front desk), Bern Wankdorf felt a tad cold until we bumped into the same host we saw at Bern City (they are the same company). Access to the lift lobby and lounge was via the phone app. Make your own room key card at the lounge if your phone / network is slow. As we arrived in the morning, the room was not ready yet. Unlike Bern City, Bern Wankdorf did not have luggage room to store your luggage. We found some big lockers at the lounge that could fit our big luggages, but the locks were not usable (no key, no pin, maybe on purpose). We had no choice but to take the risk and stored our luggage in the locker before venturing out. We booked the Family Studio with Kitchen and Washing Machine. The room was fantastic, being able to sleep 4 full sized humans comfortably. There was the electric shutter blinds on top of the curtain which was effective in blocking out the sunlight. What was irritating was the electric stove which took a long time to even boil water in the pot. Maybe they should have chosen induction hobs? There was no daily room cleaning, unless you pay for the service separately. What this means is that, all your cooking mess and trash and smell will stay in the room unless you dispose of them yourself. But what about the replacement trash bags and dishwasher capsule and washing machine detergent? This was not as intuitive, and I had to message the host over WhatsApp to find out that they were in one of those lockers in the lounge (next to the ones I stored my luggage on the first day). If you are not booked into a room with washing machine, there is also the laundry room where you can use the washing machine for free. Detergent included. As with Bern City, the lounge was great, with supply of jam, butter, coffee, milk, and the communal kitchen (just BYO bread / food / ingredient). But our Studio was so well equipped (except for trash bags) that we could stay comfortably inside our room. There was TV in the room as well. The hotel was right beside Wankdorf station. Sounds convenient, but just be mindful that you need to change train if you are travelling further than Bern. There was a Coop on the ground floor, but it didn't open on Sunday nor late at night, so just keep stocked up. Bern Wankdorf is more for longer stay and lacked the kind of heart of the city feel that Bern City gave. It is great as long as you know what to expect.
