Diplomat Suite is defined as ‘specialty suite’ by PHT himself, and is definitely one signature room where Bob Harris (Bill Murray) spent fun nights in Sophia Coppara’s film in 2003. Newly renovated Diplomat, by Paris-based Studio Jouin Manku, is seemingly some lost and some unlost of the cinematics and the poet by John Morford. Mr. Morford composed a small residence in the Diplomat. Through the green-colored foyer, the residence was composed of a workplace, living, and dining, all around a grand piano (kitchen is on the other side). The big wall was occupied by a lovely library and a reasonable-sized AV console. Dining followed a style of New York Bar, and its black-colored frame, well fitted with Yamaha's piano black. Stylish work desk and hard chair had the same color and striction. Sand color (maybe a little greenish in the original as of 1994) sofa sets made a small salon, as with oasis trees. Mr. Morford’s library heightened everything sophisticated but warm together. The new Diplomat retains nearly all furniture in nearly the same places, but everything is modernized. An oversized teak (maybe walnut) and glass round table for four (instead of a library-style work desk), a calm 21st-century chaise longue (maybe Atoll, B&B Italia, by Antonio Citterio), along with two Stanford chairs (possibly, by Jean-Marie Massaud). A dining table for six folks is furnished with handsome Italian marble; well-nursed moss garden occupies the top. Every detail looks contemporized and ravishing, but one cannot be sure what Jouin Manku is seeking. Because whole-wall bookshelves have gone (some books have survived on the TV console, maybe 1/20 of the original library), the chamber is now a 'Great Suite' rather than a private library. No bookshelves and then a giant TV set on the wall will be all the rage in 2026, but some may regret losing a sanctum. It’s obvious, though, that the magnificent view to the south is the same as before. Thanks to the thick greens of Meiji Jingu Inner Garden, one can still directly observe Yoyogi National Gymnasium (1964) and feel as if Mr. Kenzo Tange, Pritzker laureate, is drawing a line in the air till his magic suspension roof from this/his Shinjuku Park Tower (1994). A sense of unity developed the moment that guests and the designer/architect shared a passion, inspired by the contaminated metropolitan Shinjuku. Now, feeling a unity has changed, if not lost. The bathroom has been upgraded with marble-clad (introduced as Breccia Capraia, Tuscany), dramatic beauty, snow-white fragments, and ashen greyish undertones fit with its stunning views, one to the Green, another to chaotic Shinjuku skyscrapers. The bathtub has been enlarged nearly twice its size; needs more time to fill up. The newly added sitting bench in the shower chamber made one pleasant place. Since the closet has been kicked out to the next door of the bedroom, this area becomes a petit palace-like. The bedroom has sacrificed its own space to the closet, though it still has a pretty enough area. A smaller size brings an intimate feeling (if one likes it). Like the living room, the bedroom also lost its own library by Mr. Morford. Even though busy Tokyo nights (especially on the Park Hyatt) hardly allow for long reading, books surrounding beds may have helped a slightly better dream. Mid-century (described by PHT by himself) living room and marble dining, opulent bathroom, intimacy in the bedroom, and then the lost libraries. In this signature Diplomat suite, what will one experience in the next 20 or more years? Lost some, some are unlost, it’s so lovely yet. Let’s come here again because it would be as much fun, with a new bloodstream.

The Park Hyatt Tokyo delivers on every front. The rooms are beautifully appointed with all the modern amenities you’d expect from a property of this caliber, and the common areas — pool, spa, and gym — are all exceptionally well maintained. But the hotel’s greatest physical attribute may be its views. At night, Tokyo’s skyline comes alive with a sea of red lights from the surrounding skyscrapers blinking in unison — a mesmerizing, almost hypnotic sight that never gets old. As impressive as the hard product is, it’s the service that truly sets Park Hyatt Tokyo apart. The staff carry out their roles with a level of professionalism and genuine warmth that is increasingly rare. You get the sense they take real pride in what they do — and it shows in every interaction. One team member in particular, Toma, left a lasting impression. She went above and beyond during check-in, and even after her shift had ended, she personally made sure I was headed in the right direction to a nearby restaurant — going out of her way, quite literally, to ensure I wasn’t lost. It was a small gesture, but one that perfectly captures the spirit of hospitality this property embodies. If you’re considering a stay in Tokyo, look no further. Park Hyatt Tokyo is exceptional.

I read a review of the hotel and the reviewer stated how they wanted to live there. I agree as well. If it was the last few weeks of my life and I had the rest of my money to spend, this would be a candidate. I loved hanging out and using their pool, our 50th floor room was amazing, restaurant ambience and views from them were unforgettable. Unfortunately, I couldn't say the same for the food at New York Grill and Bar. They were not memorable and almost disappointing in most cases. Maybe I should have ordered the steak but I couldn't get myself to pay for the cheapest one at $100 for a 4 oz non-wagyu, "Japanese" beef as it was described. Drinks were OK but don't order the cosmopolitan (don't think they used cranberry or had lime in it).

I wanted to thank the PH Tokyo team for a most elevated stay - in all senses of the phrase! It was wonderful to be back in our refreshed "home in the skies" and seeing the welcoming and cheerful familiar faces! My family and I were utterly spoiled by the hospitality showered on us by the entire PH Tokyo team - it's hard to imagine staying anywhere else now that we have experienced the pinnacle treatment! A few highlights: Congratulations on achieving the balance between keeping the old charm of the OG and updating the property with new tech and furniture during the renovations. Initially I could not see what had changed (which was somewhat comforting since I loved the "old" place) but the enhancements became more obvious as we settled into our rooms and roamed around the public areas. As the old saying goes: don't fix something that isn't broken! I am glad you have managed to stop time (somewhat) in this classic gem! I was extremely glad to see that the "soul" of the property, i.e. the people, has remained largely intact. There were definitely some new faces that were getting used to their roles, but I was very happy to see people like Gordon (Manager of the NY Grill) who still remembered me after all this time and went out of his way to take care of me at breakfast and later at the NY Bar and Grill (over two consecutive nights!); Erika whom I first got to know at the GH Tokyo and proactively came over to to greet me at breakfast and offer her assistance; and Takahiro-san at the Peak Lounge who was able to quickly and efficiently resolve some issues we had with our order and made sure we were able to bring our kids to the NY Grill later that evening to enjoy dessert and some jazz! And of course thank you to Matsumura-san who made our stay possible and came by while we were having Sunday Brunch at the NY Grill (boy - it sounds like we are obsessed with this place!). It is the team that will keep us coming back! The in-room dining team at breakfast was fabulous at being accommodating to suit our children's dietary needs. They were extremely patient with our custom requests and always delivered the food on time and on-spec! The food was obviously delicious but it was really the genuine hospitality that takes the cake (pun intended) for me. Finally, did I mention that we love the New York Bar & Grill 😜? It’s a really wonderful space to wind down over drinks and jazz in the evening and fill up on delectable Japanese wagyu and awe-inspiring views throughout the day. The team does an amazing job taking care of all your hungry and thirsty guests. I’d call out Gordon (again) for always being thoughtful and adding the personal touch in everything that he does; and the Indonesian colleague whose name starts with “D” who went above and beyond and secured some takeaway boxes for some of our leftover madeleines from room service (she overheard us asking for some from another associate and took it upon herself to find some for us after we were initially told none were available). So this is my ode to our luxurious home in Shinjuku, and I think nothing will be Lost in Translation when I say again arigato-gozaimasu to the team for delivering to us a most wonderful extended weekend stay!
