We were a group of 14 looking for a nice hotel, near city center Reykjavik, for one night before a cruise. We found Hotel Eyja in an internet search. They had a 24 hour-manned front desk, would store luggage due to very early arrival, had a bar and restaurant and were within 20-minute walk to city center and a 7-minute drive to the Cruise Terminal. They also had connections to help with excursions and taxi service. We communicated via email several time before arrival, and each time responses were quick, polite and informative. The staff communication after we arrived was also very friendly and effective. We found the rates to be very competitive and reasonable. The rooms were very clean, albeit on the small size, but that was consistent with the local market. The lobby was nicely decorated and comfortable. The breakfast was very good, but the menu for dinner was essentially soup and paninis. The good news is the staff made excellent recommendations about local restaurants within a block or two. We would highly recommend this hotel

“Quiet and cozy”

Had a great stay with my 7 year old daughter! The location was enough outside the city center to be quiet, but tours still picked up there and it was easy to take the bus into town. We loved the breakfast and the cozy beds.

We stayed at Hotel Eyja for 5 nights. We used it as our home base taking advantage of daily excursions. Rooms were small but comfortable and very clean. The location was perfect. We stayed at Hotel Eyja for 5 nights. We used it as our home base taking advantage of daily excursions. Rooms were small but comfortable and very clean. The location was perfect. Very walkable to restaurants and sites in Reykjavík. Excursions picked us up from the hotel. A nice morning breakfast buffet but it was a bit pricey and not included with our room. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Please don't make the same mistake I did if you're in search of a room that can accommodate 3 guests. I didn't read the room size and description, relying only on the images posted on their website. Do you see the bench at the foot of the bed in the images? That's what gets turned into a second bed. To be fair, housekeeping did a great job turning it into a second bed, but the very thin mattress pad did nothing - it was still a hard, uncomfortable bed to sleep in. In addition, converting the bench to a bed meant less room for our luggage and other belongings. We had to put our stuff along the perimeter of the room, making the space more cramped that it already was. No fridge. As for the other things: Room: Daily housekeeping is very thorough. The queen bed is quite comfortable. The room temp is on the warm side if all the windows are closed. If you want a cooler room while sleeping, you have to leave them open. The tradeoff is you can't completely close the blackout curtains. Worse, you'll hear all the noise from the street. It's not a main road, so it's not busy, but there's traffic noise nonetheless, even at night or in the early hours of the morning. Breakfast: This is one of the things I like about this hotel. They serve a hearty, appetizing breakfast, they constantly replenish the food, and they stay open a little later on weekends. Hotel staff: Housekeeping and the staff at breakfast are friendly and efficient. The same goes for majority of the front desk staff who will also patiently answer your questions - from restaurant recommendations to what's a good afternoon itinerary. The only exception is the gentleman who checked us in. Throughout our stay he alternated between looking indifferent and looking like he'd rather be anywhere else. Location: While Eyja is not in the city centre, it's close enough. It's a 10-minute walk to the part of Laugavegur Street where the retail shops and restaurants are. There is a supermarket behind the hotel. Unfortunately, the right half of the street where the hotel is on has run-down buildings, graffiti, and trash littering the street. A real eyesore. Parking is free, but finding a space can be challenging in the evening. Another plus, I've seen no less than 5 small-group tour operators pickup guests at this hotel. Flybus does pick ups at this hotel too, eliminating the need to go to a bus stop.
