“Great central hotel”

Stayed 4 nights at the hotel in a standard twin room. Check in was quick and the staff were friendly & helpful. Our room was on the 2nd floor it was clean and comfortable. There is a kettle with tea & coffee. If you sleep poorly request a quiet room as this one is above a music bar and the sounds do travel. Fortunately we were not troubled by it. The bathroom was small but did the job and had a hairdryer. Breakfast was cereal, yogurts, fruit, pastries, which was nice be warned its a small breakfast room so go early. The location is great right on the main street and walking distance to main attractions and bus stops etc.

Centrally located at the heart of the city, the hotel provides the gateway for those who wish to explore the most happening area in Reykjavik. The rooms are quite comfortable and clean although I wish the lights can be a bit brighter as it gets pretty dark especially when the curtain has been drawn down. Breakfast is basic but does the job well to kick start the day.

“Excellent location, but worth asking for a quieter room”

We had a mixed stay at Hotel Frón. The biggest positive is the location, which is excellent — very central and ideal for exploring Reykjavík. The hotel and rooms were generally clean, and luggage storage was available, which was useful. Our first room was disappointing. It was dark and a bit dingy, and did not feel like the brighter, more modern studio apartment shown in the photos. Although it was generally clean, the shower was poor, with very low pressure and a black shower head. The main issue, however, was the noise. There was loud music from nearby bars, with vibrations through the walls until around 4am at the weekend, which made it very difficult to sleep. Reception was helpful and moved us to a different room, where we were able to stay for the rest of our visit. The second room, in an annexe at the back, was a big improvement — lighter, airier, quieter, more modern, and with a much nicer bathroom. We did lose the microwave, hob and sink when we moved, but it was worth it for a better room and a decent night’s sleep. Breakfast was fine overall, with fruit, dried fruit, cereal and continental options. The breakfast staff were efficient, although not especially warm, and on one busy morning the rolls were not replenished. Overall, this hotel has a great central location and was generally clean, but our experience showed that the quality between rooms can vary a lot. If you are staying here, it may be worth asking for a quieter room, especially at the weekend.

Certainly I have stayed in some pretty seedy Hotels around the world during my lifetime. On a scale of 1-10 Hotel Fron rates as a 6 in my opinion. The Hotel has sadly become a little “Old and Tired” and whilst clean and fairly comfortable, overall the only great thing is it’s convenient location and it’s budget rates. The continental cold style Breakfast provided by the independent restaurant next door to the hotels guests, was fine enough with cold sliced commercial style meats and cheese slices etc The coffee however was dispensed from press down vacuum style coffee jugs and I think just a quality instant coffee. There was a small selection of fresh fruit, muesli a toaster etc. Again on a scale of 1-10 a 7 at best. Sadly. the charisma of one of the receptionists was like that of an Icelandic codfish. He clearly did not like interaction with any member of the general public. He is in the wrong job I think. Returning to the rooms. “Very Basic” and the tiny bathroom only had Body gel dispensers,towels and a hair dryer. Nothing else what so ever. Our room looked out to a back street. Our room had no net curtains so all of the neighboring properties could see into our room when our curtains were open. The said was true of our being able to look into some of the neighboring buildings windows too. Whilst sleeping in our bed, a wooden framed canvas picture crashed down onto our beds headboard and jammed itself between the headboard and the wall. It had been hung on a single wobbly screw and not even onto a secure picture hook. After reporting this to the reception, the picture was rehung the following day. Regrettably Hotel Fron did not live up to our higher standards. It is in my view for the less concerting and lower budget traveler to stay at but not for my wife and I
