From the moment that I arrived at this well located hotel to a very friendly welcome at the front desk, to the time of leaving, I enjoyed every minute in this lovely hotel. All staff were friendly and helpful. My room was of a good size and spotless. I asked for a kettle and it was provided immediately. Quiet, although facing out onto a road. So pretty at this time of the year with Christmas decorations. Staff will call you at night if you request, when the Northern Lights are visible. You can also request for your room not be cleaned and guests receive a voucher for each day of this request. Save the planet, and save your pennies. Great idea and more hotels could adopt this policy.

“Great hotel near the public swim baths!”

This hotel is located at the very top of a steep hill, you definitely get your steps in walking to and fro from the hotel. The room we stayed in was a Queen sized room, it was spacious enough although the shower area we felt was very small and tight. We had the most amazing view outside our hotel room, looking out onto the mountains and being able to see the ski resort. Room was equipped with necessary amenities and topped up with fresh towels daily, tea and coffee facilities also included. The staff at the desk were so helpful and we were able to find out that if northern lights are spotted, the staff will ring up to your rooms to alert you, which was definitely an added bonus for us. The hotel is a short walk to downtown, where you'll find plenty of restaurants and souvenier shops. There's also public swim baths less than a 2 minute walk from the hotel, prices are very reasonable we were told, unfortunately never got the opportunity to go. Overall the hotel was good value for money, would definitely stay here again.

“Fifth floor great view of mountains”

This was our third trip to Iceland but our first time in Akureyri, flying direct from LGW. We stayed for four nights in a deluxe king room on the fifth floor. The room was bright, comfortable, and had amazing views of the mountains. There is a huge radiator under the window but thankfully the temperature could be turned down and the windows opened easily for fresh air. There was a small seating area with a TV (which we never used as we were out exploring each day). Each night we found ourselves moving the coffee table and the table at the end of the bed to avoid bumping into them in the dark if using the toilet — the layout could perhaps be improved. The most unusual design choice was the bed being positioned against the wall right next to the toilet area, which is separated only by a glass sliding door that doesn’t fully close. This means every sound from the toilet area is very clearly heard in the bedroom - not ideal! There are also no sockets either side of the bed, whereas the opposite wall has them — another reason the bed might be better placed the opposite end of the room. Something for management to consider. The shower area is also next to the bed, separated by a shower curtain. Toiletries, slippers, and robes were provided. The bed was comfortable, though the pillows were less so, but that's personal choice. The room had a kettle and tea/coffee, small fridge (ideal, as we asked for fresh milk to go in our drinks), hair dryer, and a good-sized wardrobe with plenty of hanging and shelf space. A coat hook on the back of the door would have been useful for wet coats - again something management may wish to consider. We liked the hotel’s “Green” option — placing a card on the door to skip housekeeping for the day earns a 1000 ISK credit which you can use in the bar or restaurant, and is valid during daily happy hour (3–6pm). A great idea considering the cost of food and drink in Iceland! Breakfast (7:00–10:00) had a good selection of hot and cold items and pastries. Our departure flight was moved earlier, so we missed breakfast on the last day, but the hotel kindly prepared grab bags for us (I returned 2 of the 3 drinks as we were going straight to the airport). Checking out at 06:30, we had to wait several minutes for someone to appear at reception, and there was no way to contact staff while it was unmanned — something else management may want to review for early guest departures. There’s plenty of free parking at the hotel, and parking in town is free after 16:00. The walk up from town is steep but manageable and only takes about 10 minutes. There are several restaurants nearby; we ate at Backpackers Hostel and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We also visited the Forest Lagoon twice — highly recommended. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, especially the blonde Croatian lady in the bar who made excellent Aperol Spritzes ;) Overall, we had a really enjoyable stay and would happily return and recommend the hotel.

Berjaya Akureyri Hotel – Honest Review We stayed at the Berjaya Akureyri Hotel, and overall, it was very 6-7. The rooms were pretty basic, and the bathroom setup wasn’t ideal — the toilet was uncomfortably close to the bed. Breakfast was just okay — nothing special. It would’ve been much better if they offered fresh eggs or made-to-order options, but as our tour guide said, “this is what you get.” One nice feature was their northern lights wake-up service. They’ll call your room if the lights are visible, and one night they actually were, which was a great experience. Unfortunately, our overall impression took a hit when the room attendant forgot to make up our room on the second day. That kind of service slip left a bad taste and overshadowed the positives.
