Simple accommodations which are comfortable and clean. The hotel presents a little different than the picture so don’t be put off. The room had two twins set together with comfortable bedding, a bath with shower and heat strong enough that we opened some windows to offset. Breakfast is included which is a prepared plate. It comes with two kinds of bread, a croissant, hard boiled egg, cheese, butter, jam, coffee, an apple juice and an apple and cucumber slices. The plates are premade so every one gets the same although you can request bacon. Cereal is served separately. Simple but more than adequate to start your day of hiking or sightseeing. We ate some and took some with us. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. You can only check in after 3 and that means reception is closed until then. Just so you are aware for timing arrival. There is a restaurant downstairs where we only tried breakfast although it was open for dinner. The restaurant across the parking lot is outstanding with a great view of the waterfalls as well. The waterfalls are a short hike up on a well maintained path and worth it!

The people working here are very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast is generous and the coffee is good and strong. The atmosphere in the restaurant is cozy. We could only get an economy room due to everything else being booked out months in advance. It had everything we needed but was very small for two adults. But, we had a fantastic view of the Sisters waterfall from our window and it is in walking distance.

I stayed here for one night. Frankly, after reading some of the reviews online, I was a little apprehensive, but other accommodations available nearby were MUCH more expensive and did not necessarily get stellar reviews themselves. Hence, I decided to give Klausturhof a try. All in all, I’d say it met my expectations. I booked a single room with private bath. The room was small – as I expected – but it was clean, the lighting was good, and did not really feel claustrophobic. In addition to the single bed, there was a desk, a small unit with a few shelves and a teapot. There were hooks on the wall to hang clothes, but no wardrobe. The bathroom was small. A bottle of hand soap was provided, but no shampoo. The walls were not very soundproof – I could hear a conversation next door, including the voice on the speakerphone – but by bedtime it was quiet. There was no in-room TV (none was advertised). There were no blackout drapes when I visited (which wasn’t a problem in September but could be a problem in mid-summer). Parking right outside my door was convenient. The rate included breakfast which was prepared on a plate by the staff and handed to you in the dining room (see photo). I wasn’t expecting too much but it was enough to keep me going for a few hours. One big omission – no dairy products. The only milk available was oat milk. A cup of skyr or yogurt would have been a nice addition. I loved the location – overlooking the Skaftá river and in one of the few wooded areas on Iceland’s south coast. The Systrafoss waterfall and an excellent restaurant (Kjarr, not affiliated with Klausturhof) were just steps away.
