“Not my favorite hotel experience”

The Kast Guesthouse was one of my least favorite in Iceland. The bathroom was particularly uncomfortable (see below). Bedroom: 4 standard pillows, 2 split duvets, 2 electrical outlets near bed, 2 bedside tables, 2 bedside lamps, 1 table, 1 chair, no table lamp, open closet, no suitcase stand, sheer curtains, room-darkening curtains, no safe, windows open, but no way to keep them open. Bathroom: Some counter space over the toilet, small and dark step-up shower that made cracking sounds as you shifted from foot-to-foot and a curtain that stuck to you as you moved, no hair dryer, no shower cap, no tissues, no body wash, no shampoo or conditioner, no bar soap, 1 pump hand soap at sink, 2 small glasses (helpful for filling reusable water bottles at the tap), 2 bath towels, no hand towels, 2 wash cloths, 1 bath mat, no hand towel hook near sink, 1 towel warmer behind door,no vent fan in bathroom. Technology: No TV, adequate wifi. Miscellaneous: Free parking (parking lot), no fitness facility, dining room (breakfast included) was incredibly hot.

“Clean and good location, that’s it”

Minimal comfort, quite expensive for what it was. Minimal comfort, quite expensive for what it was. Kast guesthouse was not as new or well equipped as some other guesthouses, and with the shared facilities for some of the rooms it was noisy for everyone who had to share the space around. Doors are making a lot of noise, we could hear everything and everyone, which was not perfect. Location is nice: a bit in the middle of nowhere, close to the mountains and the seals beach. Breakfast was more on the basic side, dinner was good , yet limited choice and the price was all in all comparable to a fancy restaurant in a town that is 100km away. All in all it’s very clean, rooms are rather small, no TV. Personnel kind, helpful, friendly and polite. I would go back

We arrived about 8:45 and went to see if they were still offering food (as they close at 9pm) the restaurant and check in queue is the same queue so we're waiting to check in behind people waiting to pay for their food. Beautiful setting with the mountain behind. We arrived about 8:45 and went to see if they were still offering food (as they close at 9pm) the restaurant and check in queue is the same queue so we're waiting to check in behind people waiting to pay for their food. I managed to interrupt a server by asking if they were still able to take food orders and he said he would ask...he came back out to say ALL food had gone as they were serving people who were NOT staying at the guesthouse. I asked if they could just provide a salad?? But the reply was that they had NO food. By the time we got to the desk to check in as paying guests to the guesthouse we asked the lady if there was any food (we had travelled all day and couldn't find anywhere open) she went away and came back to say they had mushroom soup..which we were grateful at the turn around of helpfulness. While waiting for the soup, every time the kitchen swing door opened we could see the 'chef' inside preparing food and I hopefully thought he may have found FOOD for us...The soup came and I have never tasted such disgusting soup in all my life. It was more like mushroom flavoured water and made my stomach turn...we didn't finish it, paid and left. We found a packet of crisps in the car we were so hungry. Walked to take some pics of the mountain and stroke the resident cat..then walked past the restaurant to see the 3 staff members sat at a table by the window tucking into some food that they must have miraculously found. I was gob smacked. This is poor service for paying guests. Also, I don't like being lied to. No hotel or guesthouse has an empty kitchen!!!! The breakfast food and staff were very nice. The room was nice, the shower powerful but the shower tray is quite flimsy... So all in all great location, poor service. Suggest a bit of kindness and split the queues (check in / restaurant)
