The Taj West End is, quite simply, my favorite hotel—not just in Bangalore, but anywhere in the world. I have been fortunate to stay at many luxury hotels around the world, particularly across Europe, including properties that are considerably larger and far more expensive. Yet there is something about the West End that none of them quite replicates. It truly feels like a jungle oasis in the middle of Bangalore. Once you enter the gates and make your way into the lush grounds, it is remarkably easy to forget that you are in the center of one of India’s largest and busiest cities. I have been staying at the West End whenever I visit Bangalore since around 2017 and have now stayed here at least five times. This visit certainly did not disappoint. I was fortunate to stay once again in Room 1614, my absolute favorite room on the property. It is on the upper level of the Frangipani building, tucked away deep within the grounds, and has a wonderfully peaceful and secluded feel. Perhaps the best part of this particular stay was simply experiencing the Bangalore monsoon. Several late afternoons brought beautiful rain, and there was something almost magical about sitting on the balcony with a cup of coffee and a good book, listening to the rain fall among the enormous trees and lush greenery surrounding the room. Those quiet afternoons on the balcony were probably my favorite moments of the entire stay, and they are memories I will always cherish. The service throughout my stay was excellent. A special mention goes to Mr. Anjaneyalu (“Anjy”), Mr. Hanumantha, and Mr. Beera, who looked after my room. They did an outstanding job—the room was always extremely tidy, and their service was warm, attentive, and absolutely top-notch. I would also like to thank Mr. Ramu, who gave my four-year-old son a lovely carriage ride around the property. It was one of those thoughtful little experiences that made the stay especially memorable for him. I did not dine at the hotel on this visit, as I have family who live literally on the street just behind the property, but the hotel itself remains every bit the five-star experience I have come to expect from Taj. The beautiful grounds, tranquility, gracious service, history, and unmistakable warmth of Taj hospitality make the West End extraordinarily special. I have stayed in grander hotels, newer hotels, and certainly more expensive hotels around the world. But hotels are ultimately about how a place makes you feel, and must have a "soul." And for me, nothing quite compares with the Taj West End. After all these years and multiple stays, it remains my favorite hotel in the world—and I always look forward to coming back.
