This is my first visit to Somnath, the famous temple known as the first of12 holy Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, has a history marked by legendary origins and multiple destructions and reconstructions. Originally built by the Moon God in gold, it was rebuilt over centuries by various rulers, notably by Mahmud of Ghazni in 1026 who looted gold from here 17 times, and finally reconstructed in 1951 through the efforts of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel I stayed on 12th Jan just for a night. I was given Room no 512. This property is at present going under renovation, hence working with very limited staff and very few guests were present. Still, hotel staff were providing best possible service. From front the building really looks old and inside except for 5th and 2nd floor where restaurant located is in bad shape. As I stayed in a higher floor, I could see the Somnath Temple from our room windows. The room is big and comfortable. The room is moderately decorated and has a queen size bed, TV, Electric Kettle. One small table with two chairs were present. The bath room is also big with shower area, WC and washbasin. The usual sachets of coffee, Tea, milk and sugar were provided. In the bathroom various kits like toothpaste and brush, comb, Soap etc were provided. The restaurant is large, but food served was average. I would love to come back to this property and would also recommend to my friends and family provided after renovation it stands up to its standard.

The service in The Fern Somnath was exceptional in all areas. We travelled as a family with an elderly parent in a wheelchair. Every time we entered the hotel after local travels the security person Dilip always helped to wheel my father into the hotel. Smriti at front desk was very proactive and professional in her approach and always happy to attend to us. In the dinning room special mention to Arthila, Sunder, Prakash and Lal Babu who have been very helpful and supportive during our stay. I would highly recommend this hotel, it is friendly, welcoming and accommodating. Thank you all for making our stay so comfortable. The only suggestion I have is for the management to review and consider making the ramp/slope at the entrance less steep than it currently is as it was difficult to push the wheelchair up / down that ramp. The reason for giving 4 Star is because it’s an old property and requires some updates despite excellent hospitality.

“Nice property @ Somnath”

Nice property at Somnath with need of improving food quality & options. Reception desk is helpful, there is a TT table on 1st floor that helps in relaxation. Food quality & menu both needs major improvement.
