Forget about anything you have ever see before and let yourself be amazed by this unique and absolutely breathtaking hotel. The Mathari Beach Resort is more than a simple hotel. It is a museum, a family, a 25 years old story. Every single detail of the place (the statues, the stones, the wood, the linen, the amenities, the garden and facilities) is so impressive that you have the feeling to be visiting a historical site instead of staying at the hotel. The location of the hotel, Pemuteran area is probably one of the most authentic balinese areas that remains traditional, quiet and authentic in the island. The staff is the most dedicated one you could ever dream of. They are all smiling all the time, super dedicated to the guests and always taking care of you. Magnus, the owner, is usually around and i really encourage you to meet him if you ever have the opportunity to do it. He has beautiful stories to tell! The food is great and their menu has a lot of balinese meals you should try, because you won’t regret! Highly recommend this place

“Second time at the most relaxing and romantic hotel.”

As above ths is the second time we have stayed here and from the drive up to the reception, to the welcome back from the staff. the cold towel and drink and the welcome from the general manager Jany-Michel your journey starts. The hotel gardens are full of perfumed flowers and wonderful statues and as you wander through them to your balenise bungalow you leave the world behind and all you can hear is the sound of a myriad of birds with the lapping of the waves. Our room was slightly smaller this time and there were a couple of issues which housekeeping dealt with efficiently, but the bed was so comfortable and I do love four posters. Take some time to read the romantic story of the owners and how they built this paradise. It was low season this time when we went and my husband was very disappointed that the main restaurant and bar were not open and we had to eat at the beach bar. This did not worry me too much but did mean that we did not have an evening meal here as the choice for myself as a vegetarian was not as large as usual. It was also a pity that the traditional dancers and other events were not on view. However my favourite part of the day completing yoga early in a pagoa with the birds and the waves was just as wonderful, and the beauty of not having as many guesss is that the pool under the trees and with a fabulous view of the mountain most of the time was just for us. The spa based on a traditional water palace does not disappoint either. I can see ways in which such a bolt hole from the world could attract guests at this time of the year and justify keeping all the facilities open, but for us our time there was precious and we thank the staff as they waved us off at the end of our time there. We will always come back when in Pemuteran.

We didn't leave the hotel during our stay there - the grounds and beach area were so beautiful. The huge grounds are gorgeously landscaped, beautiful, colourful plants, extremely tastefully done, including an old rice store and a small stage in front of the restaurant, where a local instrument way played over breakfast. The private beach is very pleasant for swimming, snorkelling about 20 minutes walk away down the beach. Comfy loungers. The Spa area is a small water palace - beautifully done, and the massage was the best we had on Bali, catering specifically to particular painspots (the Solo massage). Fantastic 25m, extra-wide pool, set in the lush gardens. Breakfast was the best on Bali - eggs to order and a very extensive buffet. Evening meals were also very good. Service was perfect - warm and friendly but never 'in your face'. Many of the staff have been with the hotel for a long time, and you can tell. The hotel is privately owned and this comes over in the attention to detail and service. Bedrooms also very tastefully done in traditional style, great bathroom. If you like a soft bed, you'll find the beds here a little hard, and the air-conditioning is old and quite loud, though perfectly functional. But these are very minor points in what was otherwise a wonderful stay. Recommend without reservation
