I recently stayed at Harris Waterfront Hotel in Sekupang for 2 nights, booking a suite room for 2 adults and 1 child (10 years old). I’ve stayed in many hotels across different countries, but this is my first time encountering such strict and inflexible policies. Firstly, I was surprised that we were only provided amenities for 2 adults. We had to pay extra for basic items like a towel and pillow for my child, each costing 50,000 IDR per night. Even then, these items were not promptly delivered or replaced unless we followed up again, even late at night. Similarly, breakfast was not included for my child, and we were asked to pay 50% of the adult price, which felt unreasonable given the booking details. As an ASR member, I expected more flexibility, but the hotel required payment immediately every time we requested something, instead of allowing us to settle everything at checkout. This made the experience quite inconvenient. Housekeeping was also disappointing. On the second day, we requested room cleaning in the afternoon, but the table was still left messy. The towels, rugs, and hand towels looked very worn and dark in color, making it hard to feel confident about their cleanliness. The bathtub was also not very clean. On top of that, the room slippers provided were uncomfortable and itchy to wear. Other small details added to the frustration — the toilet paper was noticeably smaller than standard, and overall upkeep did not meet expectations for a hotel of this level. Service was inconsistent. During check-in, the staff were friendly and approachable, which gave a good first impression. However, later interactions were less pleasant. At night, staff seemed less willing to assist or go the extra mile. For example, when we requested for the towel and pillow to be delivered to the room, they were not accommodating even when we offered to pay on the spot, which was inconvenient especially after settling in for the night. On a positive note, the bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the buffet breakfast was decent, with more Indonesian-style options. Overall, this stay was disappointing, especially considering this is a well-known hotel chain. I hope the management can improve their service standards, flexibility, and overall guest experience.
