“good location and comfortable stay”

We were here four nights as part of a tour. The hotel has restaurants and lots of lobby seating. We had an elevator to our third-floor room. There is an outdoor patio, but it was much too rainy and cold for us to use. I'm sure it is lovely sometimes. There is on-premises parking. The bathroom was a bathtub shower, with a rather high side, a toilet and a sink. There was beverage service. The room had a safe and two luggage racks. The windows were large with darkening curtains. There were no robes or slippers for guests in our room. One morning when we got up a bit later there was not hot water for showers. We had breakfast included each morning and found the selection to be good with both cold and hot choices. The food was very good. Service was also good. We ate in two other hotel related restaurants while there. The front desk was able to break some larger bills for us and helpful for suggestions on places to go in town. We had a good stay. We heard that the hotel is actually four buildings including the former town hall, now a restaurant, and former jail, now a small conference room.

“Disappointing Rooms”

The hotel generally is lovely, but what they do not tell you is that only 70% of the rooms have air conditioning. We made our reservation 2 months ahead of time, and still they assigned us a no a/c room and did not advise us. Nor did they discount the room. And it was an 80 degree sunny day, so … more

The hotel generally is lovely, but what they do not tell you is that only 70% of the rooms have air conditioning. We made our reservation 2 months ahead of time, and still they assigned us a no a/c room and did not advise us. Nor did they discount the room. And it was an 80 degree sunny day, so it was not comfortable even with a fan. I asked for a change of rooms but was told every other guest seemed to have requested a specific room! Staff was courteous, unresponsive but courteous. And I was, also. But front desk asked if I wanted to speak with the manager. But I had already made my complaint known. At that point, the manager should have wanted to speak with me if heveeally cared about an u happy guest. I would not choose this hotel in the future; there are good alternatives.

We chose the Old Ground as the most highly rated inn in Ennis, looking forward to nightly music in this town known for music. Unfortunately the accommodations were not up to the ratings given. We chose the Old Ground as the most highly rated inn in Ennis, looking forward to nightly music in this town known for music. Unfortunately the accommodations were not up to the ratings given. Perhaps we struck out being assigned to a third floor room in the original inn instead of the larger hotel. The room was cavernous, no lack of space. But furniture, carpet and upholstery were well worn. The windows are half size, being under the roof, and difficult to work. We received no instruction but sorted it out. We had no hot water our first day, which was corrected while we were away on our second day. Our key cards failed repeatedly, both at once, requiring long walks and many stairs back to the desk. The third floor of the old building has no elevator access, so we had a full flight of stairs many times a day, unfortunately difficult for me. The breakfast was just ok. Not the quality or freshness expected of what they bill as an “award winning breakfast “. Other meals at the Old Ground were fine, but not memorable. We had booked our stay in Ennis as it is known for trad music. At checkin we were disappointed to hear there is no music at the Old Ground on weekdays. The advice they gave us as to where to find it in town on weekdays was incorrect. On a positive note, parking was easy, if you drive past the front door to the spaces below the original inn. The location is ideal for walking into town. Based on a sidewalk sign we came across, we enjoyed the wonderful trad music at Cruises one night and I was enthralled to hear an a cappella rendition of Bonny Light Horseman there. Our visit to the Ennis Friary was fabulous as the docent there was so informative.
