Have you ever had something go so unexpectedly right that the world feels… perfect? At least for a few days, anyway. That was my experience at The Montenotte. First, I have to gush about my boyfriend for giving me such a surprise gift. Someone recommended the hotel to him, and I can say without exaggeration that it may be the best recommendation either of us has ever received. He brought the heart and the vision that, in turn, gave us a sojourn that was far beyond anything that could be planned. It was brought to life by a man who loves me and by people I had never even met who cared in a way that is a rarity. But before I get to those people, the property itself deserves its moment. You do not just walk into The Montenotte. You feel it. There is an immediate warmth, not only in the design and atmosphere, but even more so in the way you are received. It is both notably attractive and emotionally disarming. My boyfriend continued to spoil me by arranging for our stay to take place in the Woodland Suites, which I can only describe as quietly stunning. It is not loud luxury. It is purposeful, thoughtful, intentional luxury. The kind where every detail feels considered rather than excessive for the sake of opulence. In the evenings, lavender and chocolate appear during turndown. Not as pageantry, but as a gentle gesture. The suite itself did not feel like a hotel room. It was more like its own secluded realm tucked into the trees. Mornings were soft and cinematic, with light filtering through the branches onto our balcony, leaf shaped shadows casting across our faces as we basked in the safety of our man-made nest. It was the kind of stillness that makes you forget anything outside of it exists. We slept with the doors open, completely at ease, wrapped in plush sheets and an indulgent bed. The design of the room was modern and refined, with a television that disappears into the space and a kitchen stocked not just functionally but beautifully, which made everyday moments feel elevated. Along with their distinct originality, there are other advantages to The Montenotte Woodland accommodations. There are two main bars that are visually exceptional in their own right, but the Woodland Suites come with their own stylish private bar and bartender for an allotted time each day. They have a movie theater on-site that features caliber selected films. My boyfriend continued his generosity by renting it out for a private screening of one of my favorite films for just the two of us. Yes, you can do that there. It was complemented by chocolate covered strawberries, champagne, and... popcorn. A perfect reminder that even in all its grandeur, The Montenotte never takes itself too seriously. A place this exquisite still knows how to have a little fun, balancing the high-end with a sense of joy. Throughout our stay at The Montenotte, we were given moments that made it feel as though the world narrowed to just us. Yes, in an exclusive way, but also tasteful, special, and peaceful. On that note, the spa was impeccable. It was the best massage I have ever had, and I do not say that lightly. It was followed by a salt room that made me feel as though my body had finally been given permission to rest. The indoor pool was gigantic and sparkling. The hot tub was also large and relaxing. Even the changing room, the go-between, was deliberate in its design and convenience. The restaurant and the food, the drinks, all fanciful and delicious. The open air space, with heaters provided, a toasty panoramic view of Cork. Breathtaking. Every element worked in a hushed harmony, seamlessly, never calling attention to itself or feeling intrusive, yet constantly evolving, adding layer upon layer to a vibrant lore that reveals the very essence of the craft behind The Montenotte. It’s also a geographic paradox. You can vanish into the trees and emerge minutes later at a pub, as if the property line itself is a liminal stitch between the wild and the city. But what truly defines The Montenotte is not the setting alone. It is the people. There is no sense of hierarchy, no trace of attitude or distance. Just an ease, a kindness, and a level of attentiveness that never once felt forced or transactional. It felt genuine. And that matters, because you can feel the difference. This trip was deeply personal for me. I arrived not at my strongest, and this experience became something restorative in ways I did not expect. From the front desk to the porters to housekeeping, every member of the team shared an unspoken understanding. While the grand gestures requested by my boyfriend were in place, the unanticipated magic lay in the subtleties, the gentle poise they maintained, and the effortless way they created comfort without spectacle. That kind of care is not something you demand, and it is not something you expect. It is something you recognize when you are blessed enough to encounter it. I cannot write about how remarkable The Montenotte is without mentioning Irena Sakota, as she is the main reason I decided to write this review. As far as I am concerned, she and The Montenotte go hand in hand and cannot be separated. Irena is superb. She deserves praise, not only because she went above and beyond, but because she approached everything she did with a sincerity that is impossible to fake. It felt as though she understood what this trip meant before I even had the words for it. There was a thoughtfulness in everything she did, a personal investment in making our time meaningful. She did not just help coordinate a stay. She helped shape something that I will carry with me for a lifetime, and she did it with a grace that never once felt performative. I still think about her, and when I do, I smile. Thank you, Irena, and thank you to every person who showed us such care and tenderness. The Montenotte is not just a beautiful hotel, though it is undeniably beautiful. It is a place that reminds you how impactful genuine hospitality can be. Not only in its elegance, not only in its magnetism, but most deeply in its human touch. Ok, a sumptuous captivating human touch at that. And all of the above, what makes this place up, is why "the world" can feel perfect even if for just a time. It is a flawless time. One more note: my boyfriend, yes, him again, without whom I wouldn't have such raptures in life.

My friend and myself have just returned from a one night stay in The Montenotte Hotel. We had the most amazing experience from our first greeting with Ken and every staff member we encountered over our whole experience with the hotel. I would and will highly recommend this fabulous
