Great location in the centre of Clifden. Friendly staff, especially Eleanor, who makes sure the continental buffet breakfast is well stocked. We booked a larger room, which was located on the second floor. Beware, there is no lift. So it was a bit of a struggle getting our cases to our room (we are recycled teenagrs!). The room was clean and comfy with a very large double bed. It had a good hot shower. However, some of the room fittings were 'tired'. The chairs had definitely seen better days, with sharp edges, and if the standard lamp hadn't been blocked in the corner with a chair it would have fallen over. These issues didn't spoil our stay, but a refresh wouldn't go amiss. There is a bar on site, but we didn't use it as there is so much to do in Clifden.

“Cool Clifden”

The best part of staying at this hotel was the service provided by Sharon. She was great fun, knowledgeable of the area and took the time to get us a tour guide magazine, as well as a great host. Hotel itself a bit tired but comfortable and clean in a fab location.

“Unfriendly and unhelpful staff”

This was my first time staying in this hotel but I wont be back.. the staff were so unfriendly and rude.. not impressed at all.. would not go back to this hotel..location and rooms were ok but alot needs to be done to improve attitude of staff.

When we arrived on the 14th May 2026, I will be honest the blue and yellow paint exterior certainly isn’t my taste. It doesn’t have any kerb appeal (in the worlds of Alex Polizzi). But the interior is actually rather beautiful, the fire place in the main room is beautiful and it looks like a lot of work has been done to make it look beautiful. However, the receptionist who checked us is, wasn’t very friendly or warm. I’d go as far to say uninterested and cold. The room was nice and cosy, the bed was comfortable- no complaints there. The corridors could do with some tlc, they look a little depressing. The breakfast was nice, it’s only continental, so bear that in mind when booking the scones were RAW and we checked 3 of them and all of them were raw in the middle, certainly not ideal.. But most of it was tasty and a lot of choice. Now the waitress who served us was awfully rude. She shouted at a guest and told him to “sit down, that’s where you’re sitting”. It was quite unprofessional. The staff (mostly) and the outside colour choices actually are the worst part of this stay. But a shoutout to the receptionist who was working at around 11am in the 15th May. She was the first staff member who smiled and seemed warm and polite. Overall, we wouldn’t return.
