We are just home from our first ever family holiday! We had the best time at Castlerosse Resort. We booked one of the holiday homes for our stay. It was perfect for the 4 of us, 2 adults and our 3 and 1 year old. This was our first time ever staying self catering, it was ideal for us! The hotel provided a high chair and 2 travel cots, although we only used one of these as we couldn't get the 2nd one to work properly. Luckily we had enough space to pack our own in the boot. The kitchen had everything you would need including a fridge freezer which we found great for our ice blocks for our picnics. There was also a small welcome tray with tea, coffee n sugar and 2 dishwasher tablets. We has to empty our bins regularly with nappies etc and this was very convenient with communal collection points although some extra bin bags would be good. We walked into Kilarney on one of the days, its a nice walk but probably 20-25min walk with 2 buggies. There's a great playground just at the end of the walk close to the town centre. The playpark at the hotel is OK. Do a turn but certainly wouldn't spend hours. Our house was a disabled accessible one, this didn't cause us any issues and was convenient for parking etc. There were 2 bathrooms, one main bathroom with shower and one ensuite with bath. We just kept this one locked and didn't use at all. The living area was very spacious with curtains to draw at night. We brought our fire stick so we were able to watch Netflix etc after the children went to bed. Things to note- one of the bedroom door could lock from the inside but no way of opening from the outside without a key. ( ie not a bathroom style lock) one of the bedrooms had doors to the outside, our little boy could open these so we requested for them to be locked and the hotel were able to do this for us thankfully. There's 2 sets of French doors into the living area, a hook or something would be useful to hold these back in place when not being used instead of having to prop open with chairs. The TV could do with safety straps as we were afraid our little ones might knock it over. One of the socket in the living room was unusable as the earth pin was melted. The curtains on the large window were pulled a little of the runner and we had to prop closed with a chair. The main front door did not have a curtain so everyone walking past could see straight in. I noticed most of the other houses had a frosted partition but our house did not. If using the washer dryer don't put too much in. I was trying to wash towels and couldn't get them to dry. Once I took some out it worked OK. I'd never used one of these before. We used the pool on one evening, they charged €2.50 per shower cap which I thought was steep especially for the children ( and we had caps at home which I think made it sting more. ) We also ate in the hotel bar which was quite busy and it was very nice. All in all a great base for exploring Kilarney and surrounding areas. We went to Fota Wildlife reserve, Cobh, Dingle Aquarium, Inch Beach, Muckross house & farm. Ring of Kerry, Gap of Dungloe, Ross Castle etc. We took a jaunting car from Muckross house out to Torc Waterfall and the children loved it.
