My husband and I stopped off in the Greville Arms Hotel over the weekend as a stop-off between Dublin and Galway. We have visited the Greville Arms on numerous occasions over the last number of years. We dined in the restaurant where the food was absolutely divine. All of the staff in the restaurant were extremely friendly and welcoming. Our table was primarily looked after by Ronan. He has served my husband and I many times over the years in both the bar and the restaurant and has always provided us with top-class service. He is absolutely exemplary at his job and extremely efficient and professional, and very model-like. We wish him the best in his future endeavours!

This was my second visit to this hotel. I paid €92 solo bed and breakfast which is very good. Firstly I arrived in Mullingar very very early, 11 O'clock. The lovely lady on reception told me she would endeavour to get me a room soon although they had a full house the night before. She had a room for me 104 at 12.00. To be fair thats exceptional service. My room was so very quaint..Main room with king bed (no headboard) ? and a lovely wee archway into the bathroom. I just loved the old Georgian Sash windows that were opened onto the main street and an avalanche of flowers from the baskets nearly growing into my room. Devine. The shower was great, lovely high end bathroom products. Tunocks marshmallow treats and hot chocolate sachets were devoured. Yes a new paint job needed. Yes the room is not perfect but the service is. 104 is on the main street and I thought id be awake with traffic. I used ear plugs and heard nothing. Room I had a sneaky view at room 103 and it looked fabulous. The bed was more impressive with a grand headboard. My room didn't have a headboard which I think needs to be addressed. Breakfast was great. The ladies serving are an absolute credit to this business. I met a young lady with all those piercings that one might find offensive! She was absolutely friendly and up for the chit chat. I felt she was making a big effort and I was very taken by her. She reminded me that a scone was part of the breakfast and I could take it with me if I liked. Spectacular service and well done you young person. The other person was older and a legend. I felt like giving her a hug but didnt. Having eaten my breakfast I thanked the older lady and she was so so very approachable.

The positives were being able to check in early and having a spacious room, although it is definitely due for an upgrade. I really liked the bar. The mood lighting creates a lovely atmosphere, although it does start to feel a bit like a conspiracy theory meeting later in the evening due to certain regulars and bar staff. The restaurant is wonderfully old school in the best possible way. I had the black and white pudding roulade with spiced chutney to start and it was really tasty. For my main, I had the 10oz fillet mignon with gaelic sauce, garlic potatoes, vegetables and garnish. The steak was a little more cooked than I would have preferred, but everything together was delicious. Everyone I met, including Jimmy in the restaurant, was very friendly, welcoming and genuinely helpful. The hotel is in the middle of some major renovations and you can already see the improvements being made. Once they add a lift to the rooms, it will easily be a four star hotel in my opinion. Don't change too much, keep the nostalgia going!
