We chose Ca Fiore Hotel it as it looked like a smaller, traditional style hotel, for a week ski holiday in February booked with Crystal Ski . It was the perfect choice for us and we loved everything about this hotel! Staff are lovely here and make you feel very welcome and comfortable. They all go out of their way to be helpful, from Check-in, to bar staff , restaurant staff, room cleaning staff , all positive. Location perfect, just a few mins walk over to Campo Smith chair lift and ski school area, which is just across the road. It's around 15 minutes walk down to the old town and the station, mini supermarket. An Easy stroll. Room : Triple room , great size ; I travelled with my 2 adult children and we were lucky to have a room on the 2nd floor with patio doors onto a large shared terrace area , with mountain view. It was a really good spacious room for the 3 of us, with nice high ceilings and character beams. Bathroom was a really good size, great double size shower , good powerful shower too. The walls are thin, but we expected this is an Alpine style traditional hotel. However, this was no problem for us, after a full day skiing we all slept extremely well. The guests that choose this hotel, are all respectful of being quiet around the corridors at night time and reducing any noise disturbance. Restaurant delicious: we went for half board and the food was delicious and you certainly won't go hungry here! Breakfast was a very good mainly continental style buffet, with lots of choices:- fruits, yoghurts, juices, breads, sliced meats and cheeses, breads, rolls and pastries , pancakes, hard boiled eggs. There was also always warm bacon, sausages, and scrambled eggs too. Good Coffee from self service coffee machine too, plus good choice of teas Evening meal, was 3 tasty courses of delicious traditional Italian cuisine plus a Salad buffet. Every Evening Meal there was a choice of 3 starters, (mainly pasta starters, delicious freshly made pasta and sauces yum yum!) 3 main choices (good varied menu every day usually a meat, fish, poultry dish with vegetables, vegetarian option ), excellent salad buffet was available throughout the meal time , plus dessert choices. Everything we chose was delicious , and we were generally too full up to eat a dessert. Food was perfect after a day on the ski slopes and my children and I enjoyed every mouthful! I have a dairy intolerance and the restaurant staff were so helpful. Our waiter kindly noted on the menu anything that I could not eat every day. My dairy free options were super tasty and delicious. I didn’t feel I was missing out at all, plenty of tasty choices that I could enjoy. We liked the bar area with fireplace, warm and inviting , cosy and comfortable, relaxing area for playing cards, or having a quiet drink in the evening. Bar prices are very reasonable for beer and wine. A good bottle of Pinot with dinner aprox EUR18 , large Birra moretti around EUR5 . I have been trying to learn a bit of Italian for 2 months and the lovely, friendly bar staff were more than happy to help me with my pronunciation (una Birra / Due Birrei !) which was really encouraging for me. The Jacuzzi area is fabulous! it was open from 3.30pm to around 7.30pm every day . We loved that you didn't need to make a reservation , just pop down there. We never found it too busy , especially as there were 3 separate jacuzzis and a sauna, so no waiting time. The view from the jacuzzi area is stunningly beautiful, snow, mountains and the snow covered lake. It was a wonderful way to relax and soak tired muscles after being out ski ing all day. It was always lovely and clean and well maintained. There is a ski storage room downstairs, but we rented our equipment from Dains Rental shop just across the road, and it seemed simpler to rent a locker for a week for EUR39 to store all our equipment . It saved us walking in ski boots, (torture) and carrying our skis. Although it would have been do-able as it is only a few minutes walk. We absolutely loved this hotel , staff, location, food, atmosphere, facilities - fantastic! just perfect . would happily come back here and recommend to friends and family. Staff are friendly and helpful. The level of service and cleanliness are excellent. It was spotlessly clean and given the traditional style of the building and fittings is an achievement. Good value and choice of local wines on the menu and the hotel is traditional and cosy northern Italian style. The hotel rooms are a bit basic and would benefit from soundproofing of some kind, but it’s one of the issues I’ve found in most ski hotels. Great location too - close to Campo Smith and the ski bus stop and also a nice walk into town. Some of the rooms have good views of the mountains and pond. The food was very tasty and typical of the region (my only slight criticism would be that there sometimes wasn’t enough buffet anti-pasti when the dining room is full and it could do with being replenished, but that’s a minor thing). Loved our stay here and this would be our first choice hotel when in this area again.

The hotel has “character”, but unfortunately it feels very dated, with lots of dark wood, beams, and old furniture. On a positive note, the room was clean, which we did appreciate. The food was very disappointing. The description from Crystal stated it was a “traditional restaurant known for tasty Italian fare”, but that was certainly not what we experienced. I don’t think we finished a single meal during the entire stay. Most dishes were returned either partly or completely uneaten due to tough meat or unpleasant flavours. The lighting in the bedrooms was extremely poor. It was almost impossible to read a book or even find dark clothes in the wardrobe. The layout of the room was also poorly thought out – if you opened the wardrobe door while someone was coming out of the bathroom, they would walk straight into the solid door. Breakfast offered very limited choice. Everything was cold, apart from the scrambled eggs, bacon and the occasional frankfurter-type sausage, which were still usually cold or at best lukewarm as they were placed in serving tins without any heat underneath. In the evenings you also had to be very quick if you wanted a good choice at the salad bar. We arrived just 10 minutes after it opened and most of the food was already gone and was not replenished unless you specifically asked. I would like to say that the younger staff, both the room cleaners and the waiting staff in the restaurant, were lovely – always smiley, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the older staff were not nearly as welcoming. The soundproofing is very poor. The corridors are extremely noisy, with doors constantly slamming and people walking up and down in ski boots on a tiled floor, which makes it almost impossible to avoid the noise. The TV in our room could only be operated with the remote if you were standing about nine inches away from it. I assume the batteries were failing, but it was very frustrating having to get up every time we wanted to change the channel or adjust the volume. We were also only able to find one English channel, which simply repeated Little House on the Prairie and Columbo. We expected at least BBC News, but that wasn’t available either. If you are looking for a resort with nightlife or any kind of atmosphere, Bardonecchia is probably not the place for you. The town is basically one street with very little there, and most places are closed for much of the day. Lots of people including us ski in the morning and go into the town in the afternoon, but almost everything shuts between around 1pm and 4pm. While this may be a traditional siesta period, considering how much the town relies on tourism, it would make more sense for shops to remain open. At times the whole place felt like a ghost town. In all my years of travelling, I have never been on a holiday where I couldn’t buy a single souvenir. I couldn’t even find a postcard. In most ski resorts you can buy ski wear, jackets, boots, gloves and other items, but there was simply nothing available anywhere in the resort. On a plus, the hotel is near to the slops which is why we chose this resort
