The top reviews of Matera In Vacanza are: My husband and I arrived in Matera without reservations on the night of Ferra Agosto, 2017. The town was FULL of tourists and I firmly believed we'd be sleeping on the streets assuming no rooms would available. We popped into a lovely bar for an aperitivo, to use thier WI-FI & to look for a place to stay. On the recommendation of the bartender, he said there was a room right above them. Not sure what to expect but not wanting to sleep on the street, we asked him to call the owner. We finished our drinks and waited patiently for her to arrive, anxious to know if this was our "home away from home" for the night. When she arrives, she took us one door down from the bar, into a foyer with a beautiful marble grand staircase and lead us up on flight of stairs. So far, so good! When we arrived on the 2nd floor, she took us to the available room, and it was BEYOND what we could have hoped for! Ample room in the suite, a wonderfully comfortable Queen bed, with a an extra twin in the corner (which we didn't need), AIR CONDITIONING (!) (mind you, it was almost 95 degrees/85% humidity at 9:00 p.m.), a safe, coffee maker, balcony to the street below (which we appreciated as we were on a motorcycle and we could check on it periodically), a HUGE bathroom with all the amenities/toiletries plus bidet (AMEN!), and including a continental breakfast in the morning & free WI-FI.. We IMMEDIATELY said "yes" and it was a done deal. What we realized after checking in is that they have approx 6 rooms to let, and this was the last room available. We didn't see the others but I can assure you if they were as clean as the room we had, then they must be lovely. We slept like babies, no noise from the street below could be heard and wished we had the time to stay another night if just for the a/c! Check in/out was a breeze and the next day when we went to explore the city, they were kind enough to hold our bags/bike jackets, etc., for us until we were ready to leave. We paid just under $80 euros, and it was worth EVERY penny!!! Staff was terrific, and I wish I could remember the names of the lovely ladies who helped us. Would highly recommend and will definitely return..hopefully sooner than later!.

“BEST Hidden gem!”

My husband and I arrived in Matera without reservations on the night of Ferra Agosto, 2017. The town was FULL of tourists and I firmly believed we'd be sleeping on the streets assuming no rooms would available.
