We rented a property in Laureana Cilento for a couple of weeks, so dinner at the Ristorante Luisa Sanfelice was the easy option - the other establishment in the village having closed for the season. We enjoyed just about every aspect of eating here - the service was friendly and efficient, but not obtrusive, the food freshly prepared and delicious, and all at a very reasonable cost. Laureana Cilento is a medieval village, so the streets are very narrow, however there is a public car-park less than about 50m from the hotel. If you do go there, try and see the old olive press and mill in the cellar - very interesting. Well worth a visit.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for two nights in June and all we can say is that it was a wonderful hotel and the manager provided outstanding customer service. Breakfast was everything you could ask for and he was extremely friendly and helpful. One morning we went for a stroll in the village and it started raining but within seconds the hotel manager was approaching us with two umbrellas - what service! He also showed us the cellar which still has the original olive press and other very interesting antiques. The entire hotel was decorated in a traditional and quality manner. The bedroom was large and the kingsize bed extremely comfortable. We would definitely stay again and recommend others to do so also.

“Beautiful characteristic place.”

We held a joint baptism at this hotel, the host was so accommodating to our needs especially for our baby. The food was amazing, and he showed us a part of the hotel where they used to make olive oil. The rooms were also beautiful, thoroughly recommend this place to visit.

Hotel Sgroi was a mix of feelings that left our experience there very confused. The whole hotel is an ancient private home with an inner courtyard from where you can access to all the guest rooms. It feels you are entering in someone's home more than a hotel but this is also the fascinating side of this place. This hotel is categorized as 4 stars mostly because Italian regulation about hotel standards is very loose and allow many structures to reach the level. So, let's say on the paper is 4 stars but once you step in you realize service and environment is not up to the standard people might be used if they travel around. Very nice are the management who's also the family that owns the place, helpful in every situation and willing to share their knowledge about the surrounding. Being the owner and the rest of the family heavily smokers from the moment you step into the hotel you realize, despite the law, the place is dip into daily smoke smell from the ground floor up to the second floor. Ashtrays are filled by cigarette butts everywhere and the first smell it will welcome you every morning when you open your room-door is the smoking one. Not the best environment to bring kids round there. Breakfast consist in hot water for tea, hot milk and American coffee, two kinds of cakes, some bread to use with butter and jam... let's say compared to what usually a 4 stars hotel provide as breakfast experience this is way under the standards. You can stay there on night or more than a week and every morning you will see the same food available for guests. There is a lot of space to improve it. Cannot comment any other eatery experience in the hotel because didn't try the restaurant. Rooms are located from the ground floor up to the second one and seems thy went through some restyling maybe not too many years ago but without really design those up to a 4 stars hotel. Bedroom is spacious with a small desk for any working needs but forget about internet connection. The hotel advertises to have Wi-Fi covering the whole area but in real is only available next to the check-in room and of course if you go there to use the net be ready to dive into the cigarette smoke for the whole time. So, go there only if you are sure you don't need any internet in the room. Hotel rooms lack small attention as all the window frames are covered by bird excrement (would be very easy to keep constantly clean), amenities in the bathroom are in real a micro hairdryer hang to the radiator and a couple of soap. Don't think to find any toilette set there because you will be disappointed, so bring your own toothbrush, comb, shower cap, cotton bud, slippers... Best experience would be to go there for 2 nights and stroll around the inner part of Cilento area and when you feel to be ready to hit the beach then find a stay closer to the coast; especially in summer even if “theoretically” the hotel is only 15 mins drive far from the sea it will take you more than 40 mins each time because the so many people that fill the area and the not easy-driving road types around there. Suggested to those couple who really want to disconnect from the daily life style and stay in a place that remains like 50 years ago nestles in a small village where all is quiet and peaceful.
