Hotel Europa is well situated at a close proximity off from the main sights. The entrance hall is spacious, nice bar, good seating, even very interesting old pictures on the walls, old maps, etc. The room was good, clean, nothing to complain at all. As the service was good, breakfast was plentiful, yogurts, fruits, a number of cakes, hams, cheeses. I could even order a cappucino. The only minus would be the selection of breads, that could be improved.

Pros: - Location: (Walking) Castello Estense (4mins), Cattedrale di San Giorgio (5mins), Palazzo dei Diamanti (9mins), Corso Ercole I d’Este (11mins), Palazzo Schifanoia (16mins). - Bathroom amenities: Soap bar, combined shampoo/showergel, vanity kit, shower cap, hairdryer. - Room: spacious, very clean, with a beautiful frescoed ceiling. - Breakfast: delicious pastries. Cons: - Wi-Fi: extremely slow for 2026. I measured around 1 Mbps in the room and it was so sluggish I struggled to load even basic pages. That’s not acceptable nowadays. - Bed comfort: the mattress dipped noticeably in the middle and the pillows were very thin, so sleep quality suffered. - Technology: the TV was small and dated, and overall the hotel would benefit from some modernisation, particularly on the technology side.

“Overpriced, under delivered”

The hotel is full of Bruce Springsteen fans in readiness for tonight’s concert. Like all other places in the city they inflated their prices so we have all paid a small fortune to stay here (€300 per night for us). The hotel is full of Bruce Springsteen fans in readiness for tonight’s concert. Like all other places in the city they inflated their prices so we have all paid a small fortune to stay here (€300 per night for us). Sadly what they failed to do was put more staff on at breakfast so it was chaotic at best. Milk ran out. Hot water for tea, not very hot. Poor single waiter so busy we had to ask 3 times for coffee.

Situated in Emilia Romagna region of Italy, it represents the beauty of old architects on the first look when facing its castle and surrounding architectonic exquisite buildings similar to those most famous in Venice or Florence. Hotel Europa somehow fits there despite reflecting the memoirs of late 18th/early 19th century. Nicely placed within minutes reach of city heart with dominant castle with moat all around. Services are smooth and fast, rooms are clean and tidy, breakfast offers you panoply of choices while all kept a bit of home-touch, not commercial. Mounted into original building bordering Ferrara's high street, you may enjoy its high ceilings and in its lobby and halls on every floor cozy furniture taking you back on the brink of 19th century. In some rooms you can taste the same or a bit modern way of furniture but still very clan and utilizable for your purposes as sleeping and especially bathing in a comfort way speaking of wash basin and other bathroom equipment. The feeling of the bathroom was just extraordinary even if not very spacious. Bed in my room was two beds set together as a kingsize bed which is always limiting a guest up to some point as there is a perceivable split between. Small TV mounted on the wall, small closet still spacious enough, small desk with a minibar inside for which content you must pay extra. No chair, just tabouret leaving you a bit uncomfortable when being a laptop guy, especially with a mouse. The bed is a better solution then. Only feature which may hamper you even from taking a proper nap or sleep are doors of the room, because they are adjacent right to a hall which mean you can, although absorbing the peaks of it, hear a lot when somebody has just arrived by an elevator, if accommodated nearby, or simply moving through the corridor with a luggage. In contrary, when equipped with earplugs also neighbours watching their TV outloud cannot thwart your peaceful sleep. A view from windows is not very eye-cheering due to proximity of other infrastructure, but what can really draw your attention are paintings on the walls. Plenty of them all around the hotel and many are a superb pieces of art or are just delightful and cheering up - two examples for all - watch the painting of Ponte Rialto depicting old Venice back in the times hotel was built or small pictures in the dining room on its right wall reflecting various tableaux. Which brings us to breakfast - tasty and with stuff readily available for you to serve a cappuccino for instance. And that cappuccino is something you will not forget if it is the first time you are experiencing the Italian original. Also try local bakery, Italian types of croissants and rolls might surprise you. Also quality of fruits. More to mention, there is a Cafe Europa belonging to the hotel. Taste some local restaurants in Ferrara too to enjoy the world of differences between European standards of quality of pizzas and pastas and local Italian originals. Only quite irksome phenomenon of having breakfast there for more days is to listen the same songs every morning as songs are some sort of chansons' remakes of modern pop songs performed by definitely not A-class singers, I must say. More to taste Italy you can use Ferrara for another further travelling like taking a trip into Venice (1,5 hour by train) to compare the painting to crowdy reality of today's mass tourism. Speaking of Ferrara itself, you would probably like the medieval heart of it but beyond that it is a normal bigger city with nothing exceptional to watch or visit. Altogether, the hotel offers nothing unique except bathroom and paintings and attributes of the building of the hotel itself, but when being in Italy for the first time it is absolutely great spot where to start tasting it!
