“Great breakfast staff, great location but noisy”

We booked the hotel for the location, and it was a great location, but it’s extremely noisy at night. We knew from the reviews that other people have struggled with the noise level, but having stayed in the middle of the Las Vegas Strip, we don’t usually mind a bit of noise but this was next level. We were kept awake until gone midnight (by other people’s rooms) and were woken up by 5am by the traffic, trains and emergency services. Having said all this, it’s not necessarily the hotel’s fault but the sound proofing could be better. Aside from this, you get what you pay for. The room and bathroom was fine. Not quite as modern as it looks in the pictures but nice enough. Despite advertising air conditioning in every room, we were told by reception that Rome don’t put their air conditioning on until the summer but we had to spend at least two hours with the windows open cooling the room down so we could sleep and because of the noise level outside, we couldn’t sleep with the windows open. Again, this isn’t the hotel’s fault but it would have been good to know on arrival or when booking. Based on previous reviews, we decided to opt for breakfast and we weren’t disappointed. There’s a good variety of food and drinks but these don’t change daily. The staff at breakfast, especially Guilliano, were amazing and definitely made our stay! If my review was just on Guilliano’s hospitality, it would be 5 star every time! He definitely boosted my rating. The reception staff were welcoming and helpful. On check in, they informed us that we had to book a slot for breakfast each morning, which was a good system. They also told us about the great free workshops that are offered. They didn’t tell us about the roof terrace that the hotel has - we only found out about this from another guest on check out. We were really lucky that the weather was nice whilst we were in Rome and we definitely would have utilised it if we had known. Overall, I would say this hotel is in a great location for exploring room and is fine for one or two nights - definitely pack ear plugs - and definitely choose breakfast!

We stayed at Hotel Marissa and found it to be a mixed experience overall, with the location being the main positive. The hotel is very close to the metro and main transport links, which made it a convenient base for getting around Rome. It’s around a 30‑minute walk to the Trevi Fountain or the Colosseum, which we actually enjoyed, as it gave us a good feel for the city and made it easy to explore on foot as well as by metro. The rooms are very basic, which is fine if you’re mainly using the hotel as somewhere to sleep. However, the showers are extremely small, which made them a bit uncomfortable to use. We also found temperature control to be an issue – the air conditioning didn’t do much, while the radiators were hot and had to be turned off. To cool the room down, we needed to open the windows, but because the hotel is so close to the station, this resulted in quite a lot of noise from outside, especially at night. We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel, so can’t comment on that aspect of the stay. Overall, Hotel Marissa works well as a practical base for sightseeing, particularly if proximity to transport is important and you plan to spend most of your time out exploring Rome. That said, those looking for comfort, quiet, or more modern amenities may want to look elsewhere.
