The entrance is private, the courtyard is beautiful and feels very classic, the location is super convenient for both train station and the old part of town. The apartment was clean and comfy, and you can tell the refurbishment was a labour of love.

Great experience at Residence Briona, we were super well received by Marinella, who gave us great local recommendations. The place is very nice and well located, just a few meters from the central square. I would definetely stay here again!

Before arriving here Marinella sent us an e-mail (in English) with maps of how to get to the residence by car or by walking from the not very far railway station. Check-in is between 16.30 - 19.00 (checkout between 07.00 - 10.00). We were warmly welcomed and given the One-Bedroom Suite on the ground-floor and we also received all kind of additional information on Domodossola (including a city-map). To get to the Residence on Via Briona just next to the town's best sight, the Piazza del Mercato, one enters a 'Cancello', an iron gate (to which one gets an extra-key, for when the residence is not occupied), Once inside there comes an arcaded courtyard with the residence. On the ground-floor is the suite, where we stayed, the reception and a Men's Club for the town's Sardinian's (and their friends), who usually leave by early evening. There are three more apartment upstairs. Our suite was big (60qm). It had at the entrance a room with a sitting area and a kitchen, behind it was the bedroom (with the shower) and after a small hallway the toilet. Everything was arranged and put together with much love and care. There were also some bare medieval walls, left free for decoration and showing the age of the original construction. There is no breakfast or room-service included, although for breakfast there were some Italian Dolce and also Coffee and Tea in the kitchen, and the room was serviced once, when we had asked the lady to have one of our lamps by the bed fixed. Besides the entrance door and a window next to it, looking towards the courtyard, there was only one other window in the bedroom. It was generally rather dark in the suite and also the heating was weak, so early April it wasn't too comfortably warm staying in there. But we just thought that this is the way people used to live in former days, in old houses in old towns (and without all the luxuries that had been added to since then).

Residence Briona is a large serviced apartment in a quiet courtyard a few metres away from the main square of Domodossola. It is not a hotel and so you'll need to ensure that you tell the owner if you check in after 7pm, and whilst there is an espresso maker and orange juice squeezer in the kitchen… more

Residence Briona is a large serviced apartment in a quiet courtyard a few metres away from the main square of Domodossola. It is not a hotel and so you'll need to ensure that you tell the owner if you check in after 7pm, and whilst there is an espresso maker and orange juice squeezer in the kitchen area along with cutlery and plates, you will have to venture down to a cafe nearby for breakfast (there are plenty and they open on Sunday, mostly) or buy food and put it in the large fridge. The rooms are spacious, the wifi worked well and the only downside was that parking is city parking about 200m away. The city parking is free but is a bit hit and miss on availability, so you may find yourself driving around in circles to secure a spot. If you have heavy luggage make sure you can carry it or wheel it to the residence and up a flight of steps yourself. The street outside is pedestrianised so you cannot drop your bags at the front gate from the car and there is no concierge. Domodossola is a lovely town with great hiking nearby and Residence Briona was the perfect base from which to explore the area. The railway station is only a 7 minute walk away.
