“Ideal location for exploring Lake Maggiore and area”

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights and would highly recommend this hotel for a short break. Location was ideal being only 300m walk from the small ferry boats that take you across to the Borromean islands or the larger boats that will take you up and down Lake Maggiore. A walk into Stresa old town is only 15 to 20 minutes along a beautiful lakeside promenade. Stresa railway station is only a 10-minute walk if you wish to travel further. All the staff at the hotel are extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. The reception staff are full of ideas of where to visit and how to get there. The restaurant staff and chef are friendly, efficient and accommodating to any dietary needs. The bar manager is entertaining and all housekeeping staff are friendly and polite. We opted for a mountain view room at the rear of the hotel and were surprised to find we had a balcony overlooking a beautiful, wooded mountainside. There is a nearby railway line and minor road but noise and disturbance were minimal as we dd not spend very much time at the hotel during the day. During the night the double-glazed balcony doors meant there was very little or no outside noise. The room and adjoining bathroom were spotlessly clean, tidy and adequately furnished. Very comfortable bed. Food in the restaurant was excellent. A wide ranging buffet-style breakfast with everything provided that you would expect. Evening meal was four-courses starting with a self-service cold buffet again with a very wide range. The primi and secondi menu was ideal in that you were able to sample local dishes before ending with desserts and/or fresh fruit. I would highly recommend the hotel and would definitely stay again if in the area.

“Pleasant but in need of improvements”

Staff are lovely, friendly & helpful, especially Marcello on the bar however overall the hotel is rather tired and in need of some TLC - disappointing even whilst recognising the budget nature of our stay. Staff are lovely, friendly & helpful, especially Marcello on the bar however overall the hotel is rather tired and in need of some TLC - disappointing even whilst recognising the budget nature of our stay. Our bathroom door would stick open, sink was discoloured, marks on the wallpaper. Only 3 thin pillows between us. Noise was a significant factor, woken each morning and kept up at night by a local dog barking. We did not sleep well, with a glass door into the bathroom and no blinds we had to attach a blanket to the window to make it a bit darker, plus doors slamming and housekeeping hoovering before 8am. No air-con either left us sticky at night. Stresa is wonderful and id return but probably choose to stay elsewhere.

First impressions were really good. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful. They gave us plenty of information about the local area. We were really disappointed that the pool and pool area were closed, which we weren’t aware of when booking. There was nowhere outside to sit and relax. We asked if it was possible but it wasn’t. We had planned a sightseeing visit with some rest by the pool but ended up with no rest and doing a lot of walking. The restaurant staff were excellent and friendly too. The food was good. The first night we went to the bar hoping to have a couple of drinks. The bar was poorly stocked unless you like gin, wine and beer. I had asked for vodka and was told they wouldn’t be getting any because it is nearly end of season, which is just ridiculous. He told me to drink gin because it’s the same. Ended up having to go and do more walking every night for a couple of drinks. The hotel itself is clean and in a good location. We had a fabulous view over the lake, and the stunning islands. Overall, if it hadn’t been for the two issues, I would have given a higher score.
