Hotel Moderno

“Centrally located hotel.”

We were part of a group, and we stayed there for 3 nights. We found the rooms quite basic, and the bed hard. But it was clean. We had dinner here every night, and we were not impressed by the food because it lacked taste.

We stopped with friends for dinner. The number of dinners was low, but we didn't heed the warning. We stopped with friends for dinner. The number of dinners was low, but we didn't heed the warning. Seeing the menu was not extensive, we assumed the kitchen staff would be well practised in these dishes. They bought out ravioli, not gnocchi, as I ordered. I had trouble finding the clams in the dish. The server left the dish of vegetables to get cold whilst the correct dish was cooked for me. I had to ask her for a replacement dish of hot vegetables. Mrs Cs maccaroni turned out to be penne pasta that was undercooked, not al-dente with very few prawns. The rice with the chicken dish was overcooked. The steak was medium but with no colour. Mr C wouldn't recommend this hotel for dinner.

Stayed at the Morderno as part of Group Holiday.The Positives is the Hotel is situated in the heart of the Pedestrian Area with easy Access to all the bars and Restaurants. The Housekeeping Staff do a Great job of servicing the rooms daily with clean towels etc.Reception Staff and the Night porter extremely friendly and helpful.The negatives breakfast is the worst I've experienced at any Hotel in the World.The eggs u had to boil yourself might be idea to have some scrambled egg or few pancakes the fruit was left in.bowl would of been nice to have bowl of fresh fruit chopped and also.alot of tinned.We felt that to ask for bread etc to be replenished or crockery for juice etc always seemed to b met with attitude.The Hotel.is old but Bedrooms could do with freshing up the paint on.walls and new carpet on Hallways .While we loved Stressa and Lake Maggoire I wouldn't stay at this Hotel if we return in the Future

“Good for location, but that's about it!”

The Hotel Moderno is about 9 or 10 minutes walk from the railway station and not too difficult to find. The Hotel Moderno is about 9 or 10 minutes walk from the railway station and not too difficult to find. The location is very good as it's in the heart of the small town amongst all the restaurants, bars, cafes etc. It's also just 2minutes walk to the main ferry pier as well as the main tourist boat operator. Check-in was quick and the receptionist was pleasant. The room was relatively large (double room), the bed was comfortable enough as were the pillows, the wifi worked most of the time and the air-conditioning was acceptable although it is not as cool as some might like. Plug points in the room are all of the three pin Italian variety rather than the two pin European type which are also quite common in Italy nowadays. Some really cheapish sachets of shampoo were in the bathroom. The shower is in a bath tub. There is small safe/safety deposit box in the room as well. The room was clean enough. No kettle/instant coffee/tea in the room. The room was very basic, but no complaints with that given the reasonable price for the accommodation. The corridors appear run down, an old heater with the top caved in, paint coming off walls, carpet in need of replacement etc. Breakfast was another matter. I don't think I have ever been in an Italian hotel anywhere (and I have been in many 3 and 4 star ones) which had such a small, abysmal selection of food for breakfast. And as for the coffee machine, I don't think I have ever tasted worse coffee in my life. Appalling. However ask the waiters for a proper cup of cappucino and not the horrible liquid that purports to be that from the machine; and the waiters will go and make you a proper one. There is also a sign on the display table informing guests that they should not take the food away with them. Maybe to enforce that.....who knows......there are also several waiters hanging around in the dining room which appeared to be overkill. I really don't like have a posse of waiters watching me eating or walking back and forward from the buffet table! It's quite off-putting. For a couple of nights, this hotel is OK given the price, but I wouldn't have wanted to stay any longer than that.
