“Charming and unique hotel”

Charming and unique hotel in the heart of beautiful old Monopoli. We stayed in the grounds floor room which was very nice and newly decorated, but our mother stayed in the upstairs room - try and book this if possible as the ceiling downstairs is low. Overall a very nice stay thank you.

The Palazzo Giuditta is in a perfect location next to an accessible road so you don’t have to worry about moving luggage far or over cobblestones. The Palazzo Giuditta is in a perfect location next to an accessible road so you don’t have to worry about moving luggage far or over cobblestones. The room was very clean and unique with somewhat low ceilings so if you are tall ask about heights in rooms. Luckily our room #9 was on the side street Via Dell Erba and was only a few steps up from the street but no handrail. If you have mobility issues request specific information and or pictures of where the room is etc. The access to the terrace is up many steps on the outside of the building then through a gate, up more steps, then through a door and yes, up more steps. The view is great and there are 2 hot tub plunge pools that were refreshing. However no handrails!!! Be careful. The staff was amazing, Grazie, and assisted with arranging taxis for us. We loved Monopoli!

“Disappointed”

We stayed here for two nights during our honeymoon in the Puglia region. We paid €520 for the Premium Suite for two nights, and unfortunately the experience did not reflect the price. We shared our feedback with the staff halfway through our stay so they would have had the opportunity to address our concerns and improve our experience. The outcome was that they offered us a beer from the minibar (which we had already consumed) as compensation and removed a dirty blanket from the room. The “Premium Suite” lacked basic functionality and did not appear to have been properly maintained. The bedspread had a dried white stain on it when we arrived, and the bathroom walls were covered with splashes and marks. There was no proper waste bin, not enough hooks for hanging towels or clothes, and very little surface space for our belongings, including our suitcases. The air conditioning was the loudest we have ever experienced—like sitting in a car with the A/C running at maximum. It was difficult to relax with the constant noise. If we turned the A/C off, we could hear all the noise from the street. The location of our room felt unusual and detached from the rest of the property, although this did not bother us in itself. The room had its own entrance directly from the street. The street outside was fairly busy, with frequent on-street parking. Since the sidewalk was quite narrow, several pedestrians were startled when our door suddenly opened into their path. On one occasion, a strong gust of wind caught the door as we were leaving, and it almost hit a woman walking past in the face. We had seen online reviews mentioning the low ceiling, but we did not realize how inconvenient it would be. We had to walk bent over most of the time, which quickly became frustrating. During the night, in the dark, we bumped our heads on the low ceiling several times. Red warning tape had been placed around parts of the room to warn guests about the low ceiling, which completely ruined the aesthetics of what was supposed to be a premium suite. Combined with the worn surfaces throughout the room, it simply did not meet the standard we would expect at this price point. When we arrived, we found half-used shampoo bottles left behind by the previous guest. There was no body wash or conditioner. As the reception appeared to be staffed only during check-in hours, it took a long time for someone to respond, and we ended up showering with the toiletries left behind by the previous guest, which was quite unpleasant. The rooftop terrace also felt unsafe and lacked functionality. There was no shower for guests to use before entering the pool, so the water was visibly dirty. After climbing all the way to the rooftop, we would have had to return to street level just to shower before using the pool. In addition, the rooftop bar was closed. There was only a note stating that staff could come up if drinks were ordered in advance. Breakfast was extremely disappointing. It was served at a nearby restaurant, where guests could choose between two small breakfast options. The scrambled eggs were bland and unappetizing, and the bacon was so thin and overcooked that it crumbled like a potato chip. We found it inedible. When we mentioned this to the hotel staff, they told us that most of their guests like the bacon prepared that way. The only breakfast item we genuinely enjoyed was the fruit salad, but on its own it made for a very light start to the day. To mention something positive, the bed and pillows were very comfortable, and we genuinely appreciated that aspect of our stay. The location was also excellent, just a short walk from the centro storico. As this stay was part of our honeymoon, the experience was particularly disappointing. Fortunately, we had booked only two nights.

Overall we left feeling cheated and tired but the stay started out well. We arrived very late, having been delayed, so were talked in over WhatsApp, which worked fine and the room was clean, tidy and well equipped. A little small but well presented and the air conditioning worked well (which was great because it was nearly 30 degrees at midnight!). There is a well stocked mini bar and complemetary water, next to which was a half bottle of red wine. We had a glass each and went to bed. The stairs are steep but not really an issue and we knew they were there when we booked. The location is perfect for exploring the old city and around 10 mins walk from the train station. The housekeeping staff did a good job but the reception door was firmly locked throughout our four night stay. We had an issue getting back in one night because the power had tripped in our room. It did take around six attempts to get hold of the lady on WhatsApp but she did come quickly to sort it out and get us in, which was a relief. These are the good things. The downsides are that the Seacret Pizzaria on the other side of the road turns into a nightclub and is noisy enough to keep you awake until 1am when they close (even on weeknights). Also the half bottle of wine. On the mini bar menu the wine is listed as Primitivo at 30 euros. When we were charged it was 90 euros!!!!! It was a different wine, one I had never heard of but apparently famous in Italy. Why a wine this expensive would be left in a room with nowehere to sit but the bed and with no note of the cost is beyond me. We felt tricked and the staff refused to refund the difference between the listed wine price and this extortionate charge. Hence the reason I am writing this review to hopefully avoid future guests the same fright at the cost of half a bottle of wine and also to take some earplugs, unless you are fond of Italian pop music at full blast all night!
