We could not have asked for a better place to stay: Located in the heart of the old city, between the Basilica of San Lorenzo and Santa Maria Novella, Alloro B&B is within walking distance of literally everything. The staff is laid-back but helpful; we were able to leave our luggage in the lobby during the hours between our arrival and check-in (and again after our check-out, before having to leave for the train station). The breakfast selection (including the homemade yogurt) was ample and delicious. The room was spacious and comfortable. An electric key fob allowed us entry into the gated palazzo any time of day; elevators and stairways gave us access to our rooms (across the courtyard and up three flights) or the lobby (directly up from the entrance on Giglio Street). If another trip to Florence were in my future (would that such were the case!), I would book the Alloro in an instant!

“Great location but just an okay stay”

We stayed 5 nights at the Alloro B&B. We were grateful for the breakfast including pastries, fruit, cheeses, meat, yogurt and coffee. We really enjoyed the cappuccinos! We stayed 5 nights at the Alloro B&B. We were grateful for the breakfast including pastries, fruit, cheeses, meat, yogurt and coffee. We really enjoyed the cappuccinos! The location is great - 5 minutes from the train station and Duomo. The walls are paper thin. Our room was right by the elevator, so every morning before 7am we were woken up by people coming and going. Think it could’ve been the staff, as one morning we heard constant pacing in the hallway around 6am. There’s also a tax that can only paid in cash. I’m sure we saw this when we booked, but a reminder during our stay would’ve been helpful and would’ve saved us a mad dash to the ATM right before leaving for the airport. Overall, the Alloro is conveniently located in the heart of Florence. Outside of those 2 issues, we had a comfortable stay.

The bedroom and bathroom were by far the largest of any lodging in this price range that we have experienced in Europe and larger than some much more expensive places. The bedroom and bathroom were by far the largest of any lodging in this price range that we have experienced in Europe and larger than some much more expensive places. It is walking distance to the train station and to the Duomo. The only downside is that our room was accessed from a different elevator than the one used to get to reception where breakfast was served. We also had trouble understanding how to open the gate at the street both from the street side and from the courtyard. A written explanation would have been very helpful.
