“Disappointing”

A hotel ? It’s the 2nd floor of a very large building which seems to have a mix of residential & commercial on other floors. A hotel ? It’s the 2nd floor of a very large building which seems to have a mix of residential & commercial on other floors. Accessed via electronic door entry and bare concrete stairs as if you are going into a storage warehouse, dusty & dirty. It’s not at all inviting. There is a tram stop not far away and you could get one from the airport very easily. Cost less than 2 Euros. Room was very large and spacious but a bit ‘empty’. It had a high painted ceiling, a sofa, a chair, a desk, small bedside tables, small mini bar. But, for example, no tea/coffee making facilities. Bathroom was large but shower really needs some TLC as the seals are old and very dirty. Not hot water first morning. Fixed for 2nd morning. It has aircon, but it’s not actually working even though it was 28 when we were there. It will recirculate air but not cool it so at night this was a BIG disappointment. Mosquitos were a problem even with windows shut (making the room very stuffy). There is no lounge as such but a handful of chairs in the breakfast room and so no bar etc. The breakfast is very basic, limited, not much choice at all and no cooked options at all – not even an omelette or scrambled eggs to go with your toast which you make yourself (no problem). I get the impression that it’s just functioning and the owners don’t really have any enthusiasm for it. I think they live here as well and the basic B&B earns them enough to live day to day etc. Romantic ? Noooooooo. Don’t be silly. It’s about a 20 minute straight walk back into the centre of Florence (cathedral – not worth queuing to get into by the way) and adjacent roads do have some worthwhile restaurants anyway if you don’t want to walk all of the way in for dinner. There is also the tram option. Plus in the same street a few minutes back towards the centre there is a hotel so you can use their bar (or stay – wish we had) and another similar in an adjacent street. Plus the botanical gardens in same street also. It was OK. A base. But very basic and not what we expected. I am shocked that some think it was wonderful. It most definitely was not and is not.

Everything went well, that was the most important thing.
